Posted - Jun 09 2011 : 08:46:00 AM We have an old ladder in our barn that is missing a rung and is unsafe to use. So I thought it'd be a hoot to attach it to the side of our barn and plant some type of vine (maybe Morning Glory) at the base and let it just climb to it's hearts content.
Wish I'd remembered this a few days ago when I tied up a rose bush to the side of the barn - it would've been perfect! Oh well.......it gives me a chance to have some more posies to purtify our barn and give it a bit more appeal.

Posted - Jun 12 2011 : 12:49:16 PM Thanks for the great tips everyone! I also thought that a ladder that is uniform in size would make a great headboard as well. Too many sliding doors on the one side of our barn but maybe on the other by my rose bush. Or, maybe lean it against our one small outbuilding and see how that looks.......

Posted - Jun 09 2011 : 9:15:20 PM Depending on the length... I saw a pic in a mag that made an arbor for a fence. It was beautiful. I've been looking for an old ladder to make this arbor. Can't remember site, google it and take a look. |

Posted - Jun 09 2011 : 08:58:15 AM When we bought our house the previous owners left a wooden ladder in the birch tree out back. Of course it was weather-worn. My husband cut it up and made a mantle for the downstairs fireplace. It's awesome. He just shortened a section of it, hung it horizontal, so it still has wrungs (the wrungs go verticle) then with the leftover pieces he built out the top for big enough for a mantle. I love the rustic look.

Posted - Jun 09 2011 : 08:54:16 AM Great idea! Or you could clean it up a bit and bring it inside, ceilings allowing, and use it to show off vintage tablecloths. That's what I did with mine :)
