Posted - Jun 02 2011 : 07:32:24 AM I just found out that this area has a problem with cucumber beetles. What can I do to naturally discourage them and keep them out of my garden? Apparently they eat the entire plant as soon as it comes out of the ground so I need to find safe and natural alternatives as soon as possible since I planted my seeds on Monday.
Also last year was a very bad year for corn ear borers (sorry, the correct name escapes my mind right now!). I know that does not mean this year will also be bad, but I don't want them to be a problem for my small corn patch! Any natural methods?
I have been plagued with these maggot things that eat all my root crops except for carrots. Turnips, radishes, beets are all infested and I never get a crop. I have no idea what they are and what I can do to prevent them from eating my precious crops. I love beet jelly and I am making my own baby food for the new baby coming and I want to freeze my own beets since they will be organic. They are white, and they live in the dirt not like fly maggots which just stay on top of the ground. They are almost like little worms. Any one know what they are and what I can do to keep my root crops safe from these guys? This is the first year planting in the garden here at my new house so maybe they don't have them here, but they had them at my parents house and after I got married I had them in the garden 30 miles north of my parent's house.
I planted all the garden seeds on Monday and now I remember the garden pests so I will take any pest advice to keep my garden as organic as possible. It is so much work planting I do not want to feed the garden pests, I want to feed my family! Thanks in advance!
