Hi all! I alked out to my garden this morning and as shocked at the amount of destructio the rotten squirrels inflicted. How can I keep them out of my garden. I have been reading about cayenne pepper, mothballs, marigolds and also a product called shake-a-way. I do have a fence around the garden but those pesky squirrels can get through anything. Anyone have any experience with or thoughts on this?

I went to my local herbary (Bear Creek Herbary) and the lady was so nice. She sat with me for about a half an hour and we researched the rotten squirrels. She has tried grating irish Spring soap around her plants and that has kept the little devils away. I am going to run out to the store and get some soap today. If that doesn't work....anyone have any good recipes for squirrel stew? LOL.

Elaine- I feel your pain! last year I did not have any issue with critters in the garden- but I went out yesterday and notices that one of my corn stalks was dug up and chewed on . SO far only lost the one...hopefully they didnt like it! Ha Ha. On a different note, I have problems with my Broccoli- some type of moth/eggs and they just about destroyed it overnight. Inoticed the other day there were a few holes in the leaves, then went out yesterday and they really went to town- not sure its even salvagable at this point. I will only use natural/organic remedy- so hoping its not too late.
Good Luck!

I have found that bars of plain dial soap hung around the garden every 10 feet or so works for them, rabbits, and deer. It smells nice, but they hate it!

Thanks Tina - I am going to try that. My neighbor also suggested fox urine spray.

go to a sporting goods store that sells hunting equipment, get urine in a spray bottle of mountain lion or coyote, and spray around the periminter of the fence...works like a charm for me..

The only thing that ever worked for us is a big dog with a penchant for squirrels!
