Posted - May 15 2011 : 09:22:30 AM Oh my gosh - I could cry! I have never seen so many flea beetles in my life! I had lost a few seedlings to flea beetles in the pots about a month ago, so I took them outside and allowed the breeze to wash over them. Things looked good after a couple of days, so I planted the plants out in the garden and all seems to be going well. But this morning I opened the box of mushrooms I've been trying to grow - just to mist them per the instructions - and found the entire box was LOADED with them! ICK! There was nothing left in the box but soil and flea beetles! SO gross - and SO disappointing!!! I had my husband tie the box up in a bag and take it out to the garbage can, while I checked the pots on my deck and in the house. I don't see anything at the moment; at least I don't think so - there is one plant in the with brown leaves, but there's no evidence of them, and, after all, I do have the "Al Capone of Green Thumbs" reputation that precedes the beetle infestation, so... Just in case: what's the best way to get rid of them!? Will they "move" to the garden or my outdoor pots? What should I watch out for? Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening again? I want to cry! Thanks so much for your help, girls! - Nini

Posted - May 15 2011 : 4:10:40 PM Hi Nini...I don't even know what a flea beetle looks like and never heard of them before. But if you google in the words...natural garden pest control, you should find some good tips. I always use a mix of two drops of dish soap to a quart of water and spray my plants if I get pests. Good luck my friend!

Posted - May 15 2011 : 4:10:13 PM We had a nasty bout with them last year. My husband mixed up a spray bottle of vegetable oil, cayenne pepper, garlic, black pepper, hot sauce and I think some vinegar. He went through what we had in the kitchen and mixed up hot, spicy stuff and sprayed the plants. The little buggers haven't been back :D.
