I was whacking away at my trees in front, trimming off branches and sawing off limbs. They seriously needed pruning, and it was nice today, so there I was, wellies, saw and wool hat down around my ears. And I got to thinking: Wouldn't it be cool to build a twiggy gate for the mini-yard around my bunny barn? (I have to keep the dogs out.) So after I got too chilly and piled all the small bits safely, I came inside and started looking online for inspiration. It is amazing what you can find! I came across a brief instruction about how to make a gate out of branches and twigs, and it seems suspiciously easy. So, my question is: Have you ever tried making your own gate? Is it really that easy, or are there hidden construction difficulties I should know about before I start trimming branches and screwing them together? And, if you have a rustic twiggy gate for your garden, I'd love to see a picture!

Elaine, that is too funny! I am excited about this project, it doesn't seem like it could be toooooo hard. I picked up some corner brackets, and thought that should work to make the corners extra secure, and then I think I'll get artsy with the supporting twigs. I was thinking about putting chicken wire on the backside, to make it a little extra dog-proof. DOn't worry, I'll post pics of my finished creation (I hope to work on it this weekend, too!)

I can't believe it! I spent this morning googling how to make a garden gate out of branches! You are right - there is a wealth of information out there. I think that I am going to give it a try this weekend.
