Posted - Jun 29 2006 : 8:41:24 PM Garlic harvest is finally over and this week I harvested the last garlic & shallots. We grow 15 varieties so they all are not harvested at the same time. The first ones were harvested in mid May and the last a few days ago. Here is a picture of the last garlic harvested. It was an elephant garlic that we did not plant. It came up early last fall . As I was planting another variety I noticed that this elephant garlic had come up where I was planting so I decided to leave it. As spring came I could tell this would be a big garlic. It weighs 1 1/2 pounds now but will lose some of the weight as it cures. We plan to enter this garlic in the biggest garlic contest at the garlic festival we attended. If it wins it could be worth $50.oo. I placed a DVD beside it so you could see the size.

Posted - Oct 17 2006 : 7:35:41 PM Very very nice, garliclady! And good win! I planted my garlic about a week ago. I put the mulch on before its up (we've had some frosts already), is that a problem? Should I push the mulch aside until its up, or just leave it alone? What are garlic earrings? |

Posted - Oct 17 2006 : 11:22:43 AM An update We did win the Monster garlic Contest with this garlic . We also did the best sales we have ever done and sold out of most of our stuff . this year the garlic earrings and the garlic dog biscuits were a big hit so we sold out way too early. I am hoping for a few days to rest before we start planting garlic .
