In between rain showers today I got to poke around in the garden some (even though it is still a mucky soggy mess) and was excited to see peony shoots starting up! I inherited dozens of large peony plants on my property and they are so gorgeous I can't wait! I have a major case of spring fever if the rain would ever let up I could get so much done!!! I used to grow dahlias, but having to dig them up & store them just doesn't work anymore for me, I have nowhere to store them. I have now decided to switch entirely to growing peonies! They just seem to grow so well here. HOpefully I can keep them as nice as the previous owner ( a great gardener ) did. Gardening is one of my all time favorite activities (I come from a gardening family) but I have so far to go. Sometimes I just fly by the seat of my pants in the garden!

I love peonies. I inherited some too, but plan on moving them to make a row behind my vegetable garden!

What a wonderful thing to inherit with your house. I just posted some great peony photos on my blog! I absolutely love them too - and really, should have more plants. I think about it every year!

I love peonies, too. My mom had them at the house growing up. At our new house I plan on planting them for me again

Great idea Emily, LOVE peonies too, used to make homemade soap with peony essential oil and it was a dream!! We have a couple starts but it will be a couple years to get them going and have them at a nice size. Enjoy Heidi!

I was just reading an article in (I think) Grit and it said to take your old cheap tomatoe cages and cut the bottom part off to make them shorter. Placing them around the Peony bush during this time of year, then when they go to throw themselves all over the place they will be held up.

You are so lucky, I miss the Peony bushes at my last home so much, they were about 25 years old and huge.
