sharing a few pictures of what we have done on our patio. The area is screened, but my husband wanted to turn a corner of the large patio area into a rock and succulent garden area. So my oldest daughter actually did most of the work on this. Hubby bought the large rocks, sand, and gravel and I had most of the plants in my collection already. Total cost to create the garden: about $120
The brick that was taken up from the floor of the patio was stacked 3 high to create a retaining wall.

It's beautiful. You guys should be very proud!! I'd be posting pictures too! You your DH and your DD did a wonderful job! I am not penny wise. My DH would fall over if I made an outdoor project under $150!!! So extra kudos to you for vicariously challenging me!!! Lol

The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.

Great idea Tina. I wish I had pictures of the flagstone patio I made my Mother a couple years ago. Very nice and not costly at all. she moved and the people took it out.

But what you guys did is an excellent. It gives me some good ideas too. MB

we have also added a backdrop of bamboo screening behind the garden for privacy. that adds about $20 more and we have also added a string of colorful hanging solar lanterns..another $30...but..those little extra items aside a garden like this can be created for less than $150 the most costly items were the large rocks..that large rock in the center is about 2 1/2 ft long and is heavy! that huge rock along with the other specialty rocks were about $80.
Of course if you live in an area where those things are easily found in the woods or along a riverbank then your garden could very well cost much less than ours did.
Anyhow..just a little peek at what can be done to create some fab from something a little drab.
