Posted - May 17 2010 : 5:13:07 PM I made a big boo-boo. Here is what I learned the hard way:
Tobacco or Nicotine Spray: This mixture is great for combating many different types of bugs, but especially caterpillars, aphids, and many types of those nasty worms.
What you need:
1 cup of tobacco
1 gallon of water
Put the tobacco into the container of water. Allow the mixture to set for approximately 24 hours. After it has stood for a day, check the color. It should be the shade of weak tea. If it is too dark, just dilute it with water until it looks right.
*Warning: Don't use this solution on peppers, tomatoes, eggplants, or any other member of the solanaceous family. Tobacco chemicals can kill these types of plants!

Posted - May 17 2010 : 9:00:43 PM i am so sorry you lost your plants. i hate when i make mistakes like that. we all have done such things. like love them up with fertilizer and i burned them. diana is right. it is actually a chemical pesticide. i use a tblsp. of non toxic liquid dish soap or castile soap and 1 tblsp. light cooking oil to gallon tepid water. shake add to sprayer spray when leaves are shaded so they do not burn. bugs come out at night a lot. worms etc. there is also a bacteria bacillus thurengis spelling sorry that stops the larvae from eating. they die from a natural predater. gardens alive has great products.
side note. there is a bad bacteria that lives in tobacco that you can transfer to your plant also from your hands. just a thought happy days sherrye
