I am overrun by what I think is burdock - it looks like rhubarb almost, only it grows talls and has burrs like thistles when it is fullgrown. The roots go down forever.
Anyone know why it is spreading or have any good ideas on how to get rid of it?
When we moved here we had tons of thistles, now I've almost got those under control and the burdock is taking over - nothing seems to get it down - I just cut one down that was growing up under cardboard and straw.
thanks to anyone who has ideas:)

I was afraid of that Alee. I wasn't on top of things two years ago and the burdock went to seed and spread. Hmmm, how to do this while maintaining my "organic" garden status. They are everywhere - I guess I could dry and sell the root, we sell it at my work:)

Yes, That's burdock alright. They can grow from seeds as easily as bindweed :( I HATE that plant. OKay so it has some awesome properties but I think it should only be growin in a maximum security plant prison!! My poor dog always comes home with those burrs in her beautiful 4-6 inch long fur and I have to clip them out :( She looks like a demented toddler with scissors gets ahold of her!

Anyway, to kill that even plant, you need to do your best to dig it up by the roots before it flowers. If you keep digging it up, eventually it does go away. Another option is to spray it with a commercial herbicide. I poured hot vinegar, cold vinegar, boiling water etc on it and I think I heard it snickering at me as I walked away. So instead I bought a small bottle of roundup and painted the leaves with it and that seemed to kill it really fast.
