DH and I have talked for months about getting a greenhouse. We looked for a used one or one that was reasonable in cost. Finally we decided to use a canopy frame we had, about 8'x20'. We ordered greenhouse plastic and came up with a way to fasten it on the frame.
We are starting garden vegetables and trying plants that normally wouldn't make it in our zone. The plants are doing great.

Then we found out we are rebels! Our county commisioners have passed a law saying that greenhouses are illegal in our county unless you have a commercial license. They didn't want anyone growing marijuana.

It isn't visible from the road and we don't have a lot of company that isn't friends or family, so its staying up!

Oh, you rebel, you--it's not a greenhouse, it's a sunroom! Or you could put a dog bed in it and say it's a dog house. Some laws were made to be broken--this is one of them.

Angela, you law breaker you...I would leave it up too! Did you know that in some communities you can't even have a clothesline? I am building a greenhouse on the south side of my garage. I am making it out of old storm windows. That is after the privacy fence is up!

JoAnn, I hadn't heard that one but I'm beginning to believe it!
In the 1960's my home town discovered it still had a law on the books about "no motorized vehicles on main street".
A neighboring town here has banned solar collectors, "they aren't aesthetic". Arghhh. Sometimes stupidity is absolutely amazing!
DH says its no longer a greenhouse, its now just an oversized row cover. But I think I just may haul out a chair, just in case.
Thanks for the support.

I love this! Great idea, Angela! She could also put a little table and put some books and an ottoman. A candle or two wouldn't hurt. I can't believe ya'll aren't allowed to have a greenhouse. That's just crazy. I would keep it up too. I'm pulling for ya. Keep us posted.

Go for it girl! It's not really a greenhouse, just an outdoor sun tent! I have an aunt who argued that point to an officer once and won. Hers was a home made wooden frame with visquene over it. She put a chair in the middle of the room and said the plants were for extra oxygen and the room was used for relaxation and tanning. The cop said it wasn't a store bought greenhouse and the chair made her claim legitimate. So get you a chair in there and you're covered!
