Posted - Apr 01 2010 : 1:57:55 PM Last year I had TONS of basil. I mean, a BUMPER CROP-which I started in the greenhouse, in styrofoam trays. (We reuse these)
This year, I've grown them in jiffy pots, once again, in the greenhouse-and I don't have ONE SINGLE SPROUT of basil! Can someone tell me what's going wrong? I LOVE my basil! :(

Posted - Apr 03 2010 : 09:21:50 AM Hrm. We bought brand new trays this year, but, I have my basil in the jiffy pots. Maybe I'll take them out of the water to dry for a little while. :( My basil was so great last year!

Posted - Apr 02 2010 : 08:28:22 AM I think they call it damping or dampening off. The soil is too moist & it rots at the base. I have had that happen too. I could also be reusing tray or pots without cleaning them?

Posted - Apr 02 2010 : 08:18:40 AM My basil all sprouted and then did nothing for weeks - just two timy leaves and then it all randomly died one day! Not sure why. Looks like I'll be buying some starts at the store.

Posted - Apr 01 2010 : 2:10:15 PM My basil is very slow coming this year.
I bought a boxwood basil. It seems to be doing ok. We'll see.
