It's funny being in south Texas now instead of Ohio. It is sooo early and I have herbs, tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, chard, etc growing like crazy. I lost cucumbers in a cold snap. But they were just emerging.
If anyone wants to try something new, try Pineapple sage in iced tea. It tastes like Juicy Fruit Gum. I am looking for applemint. It is suppose to be really good in tea.
My Mom (whose name is Rosemary) tried Rosemary in Ohio with bad results. It is very cold sensitive. Mine here is going crazy.

We have decided that this is the week for turning the garden and starting some seeds. By mid-April we should have our snap peas planted and by the end we should have nearly all our starts and plants out. It all depends on how the weather goes though. But we are starting this week for sure! I'm getting excited.

I just finished turning over the dirt in my vegetable/herb garden. My mint, oregano and chives are up. I'm hoping for a glimpse of my rhubarb, but it is too early yet. My tomatoes, green peppers and eggplants are doing great in the basement. I can't wait to move them out but it will be awhile yet! We have had real spring weather right now, but who knows what April will be like.

How sweet to help out your mom. I miss mine soooo much. My herb garden is a little scraggly this time of year, but will soon be full! We call it "herbs gone wild!" I have rosemary which is huge, I wish I could send natesmom some. I have broad leaf and curly parsley, chives, lemon balm, spearmint, and thyme that all overwintered. In the greenhouse I have sage, basil and this weekend I am starting some cinnamon basil. I have never had that before and am looking forward to trying it. When it gets a little warmer I will direct sow some dill and chamomile. I love gardening!

Hi Girls!! Sounds like you are having so much fun in your garden! I just know my mom is so busy and if I can bless her my doing her herb garden I will. She does soo much for all of us kids that it is the least I can do. I know she would love to have it all done. I love her so much. :) A mothers love is the most beautiful and wonderful gift you could ever have.
Victoria, I'll post all the herbs I am planting tomorrow as I am going to hit the hay and say goodnight. I'll put their uses too. :)

Happy Gardening to you and your mom. My Sweet hubby and I got our herb garden together. It's growing and looking really nice. The outside cats think it is a new litter box with plants in it. LOL. My hubby isn't too happy with them right now. He put moth balls in the herb garden to try to keep the kitties out.

Angela, rosemary isn't too hard to grow. But in Indiana you might want to get a big nice pot to keep it in so you can bring it inside in winter. I have one that's on the side porch. But I have had them grow as big as bushes.
I need to start a new herb garden. I have a nice spot where I would like to put it. I need it to be fenced in because I am letting my goats in the yard right now to mow for me. I have a picture in my mind how I want it to look. If I ever get it that way it will be pretty. It's just doing it and having the money to do it.
Channah, I hope you have a good time weeding your herb garden. It's nice that you help your mom.

I've never grown herbs. My family eats a lot of rosemary and it's pretty pricey. How hard is it to grow? How should I get started with it? |

It is a new basil. More woody and hardy than regular basil. I found it at Lowe's.

I'm not really sure yet Amy. I am going to plant some herbs that are good for my goats in their too. First I am going to weed it for my mom. :) She's so busy right now. :)

my perennial herbs are looking good and I am so ready to plant the basil but, I will wait. It is suppose to be sunny and nice here the reso of the week so I am ready to get out... Amy what is boxwood basil? I have not heard of that before.
