Grace- one trick is to go wrap the little trees in Christmas lights- The lights produce just enough heat to prevent a freeze but not enought to hurt the tree. I have heard of people doing that with fruit trees to protect blossoms when a late freeze comes in just as the blossoms are about to set to fruit.
