Posted - Mar 19 2010 : 04:55:07 AM Tomorrow's forecast is for a warm (72) and sunny day and I am soooo ready for it! The ground has been tilled, the onions planted and this weekend the radishes, lettuce, and spinach will be going in! Now I have to admit that none of my family especially loves radishes, but the come up so early that it's such a thrill to pull those crispy red radishes out of the ground, that I plant them just for the fun of it! What we don't eat is given to the neighbors.
We are also looking forward to "wilted" lettuce salads. Anyone else like those? Homegrown lettuce with a hot dressing of a little bacon grease, vinegar, and sugar. Pour it over the fresh lettuce and it is delicious!
And spinach salad with strawberries and walnuts. Oh my goodness I am making my mouth water!
Happy gardening ladies!

Posted - Mar 19 2010 : 08:42:06 AM Linda, when I first met my husband he took me to meet his mother. She was as country as they come. But they did the wilted salad and put fresh green onions in it too. I could not stand to be near them after they ate that! Ugh! I still don't feed my hubby onions til the day he has to go back out on the road. But I had never heard of it til then. I grew up in Calif.
It is a nice day here. I am hoping that if it does not rain by Sunday (and I hate to do it then) I will til up a few rows for onions and potatoes and a row of peas. I am just itching to do something. I still have more strawberries to get moved. I just love this time of year!

Posted - Mar 19 2010 : 07:52:06 AM That's funny Linda - that's why I plant radishes too, just because they are the first thing to harvest. Have fun planting!! We have to wait for a while yet Amy Grace
