Posted - Mar 06 2010 : 07:29:42 AM Thanks Melody!
My son is named after a great-great grandfather. But when he was born a good friend of mine found an old Larkin Co. advertising calendar. In the little square where the calendar used to be she painted the word "Welcome." A few years later as we were looking for a buffet for our dining room we came across the perfect one. And lo and behold it was a piece of Larkin furniture!
I will have to go and check out your soap. We love handmade soap in this family!

Posted - Mar 04 2010 : 8:30:08 PM Amy....
I just checked out your blog and we must be a kindred spirits... Favorite books? My absolute favorite is To Kill a Mockingbird!
Your son is named Larkin? What a sweet name for a little boy!
I have my own handcrafted soap company--By the Bay Handcrafted Soap and a desk sits in my shop with the Larkin label... John D. Larkin was one of America's great nineteenth century entrepreneurs. He began his illustrious career making and selling soap--of all things----I didn't realize that I had one of his pieces of furniture (he gave away desks like mine, to stores who made large purchases of his soap)and I didn't know it until I began to remodel my parlor. I sorely needed a desk for my cash box, etc.when I decided to strip and refinish an old desk I had hidden away in the basement for years, and years. My desk was a Larkin... Somehow, knowing that gave me some much needed reassurance for the adventure I was about to embark upon! Creating my own soap and selling my soap in my own little parlor shop...that was almost five years ago...
Don't you just love meeting "new" friends on MaryJane's forum?
I will get your seeds out to you tomorrow...I am so glad you responded to my post Amy!

Posted - Mar 04 2010 : 11:43:41 AM What a fun idea! I hope you gets lots of seeds in exchange! I wish I had some flower seeds to send you. But we just moved and I don't even know what we have here. Our old house had wisteria and I loved it. The house we are in now does not :(
