 I'm gonna be broke buying new seeds and plants for this year's attempt at a garden!
Broke but happy 
I'm going for as much organic and heirloom as I can afford. Hopefully I'll be adding some laying hens to my tiny yard-farm once I renovate the coop and they'll help keep the bugs down. there are so many cool old heirlooms that I had a real devil of a time choosing...soo I went overboard and am now waiting, waiting, waiting for my wonderful seeds to arrive.
I'm so excited for this years garden time! I'm lucky that I have locals that sell heirloom plants at the farmers market. I'm going to be buying all of my tomato, pepper and eggplant starts there. Probably won't stop buying plants 'til my sweetie drags me away

Amy Grace, I'd be glad to share what I'm planting this year, as I likely won't have used up half the seeds I ordered..I'll let you know when they get here and post a list of what I have to offer
Pat, you can post a seed barter right here in the garden section, or go up the page to the farmgirl barter section near the top of the forum and post there...I'll likely post some once I see what I've got to share.

I never thought of bartering my seeds that I didn't use up. How do you go about bartering them? Has a lot of possibilities to get all kind of seeds. Thanks for bringing this idea up. |

I had a huge list then faced facts (DH is laid off, has been for 6 mo.) and decided to stick to just what was leftover from last year. Next year though - next year I will go all out. Fortunately I bought all heirloom/seedsafe seeds last year so I'm set there.

I've got my order in the mail for both Baker Creek and Pinetree =)
Neither one has ever failed me! And it's only two people that I'm growing for at this point, so I will have seeds to barter once I see how much I can plant here!

I am a garden addict, too. I found some really great catalouges for heirloom seeds. Southern Exposure Seed Exchange has both heirloom and organic seeds. Reach them at 540-894-9481 or gardens@southernexposure.com. This catalouge has a lot of info on their seeds and great planting tips also. Don't let the southern name stop you from getting it. Most of their seeds do really well in the Northwest. I have never been disappointed in what I buy from them. Another great one is: Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds - a really pretty catalouge, worth getting just for the pictures. Reach them at 417-924-8917 or rareseeds.com. The D. Landreth Seed Co. is also a really informative catalouge. It is the oldest seed company in America. Has a lot of old seed info and it is interesting to read. Hope this has given you all some good choices. Pinetree Seeds in Maine also has some heirlooms and some organic. Reach them at 207-926-3400 or superseeds.com. This is a good one for budget minded gardners. They have low prices and smaller seed packages. Great for me because I only grow for two people. They are a reliable and trusted source for me. |

Annika, I'm right there with you!!! I had to reign myself in at the seed store the other day, or I would have spent way more money than we can afford. I bought only cold season crop seeds, but I'll be buying the rest of my seeds to start indoors very soon. It's so hard not to just buy EVERYTHING!!!
And, I bought a new shovel. I don't know why this seem so exciting, but I rushed it home and used it immediately!!!
