I have a greenhouse tray full of spinach seeds that just sprouted. How can I get my sprouts to mature into seedlings without a grow light? I've tried sprouting my seeds in the past and never got beyond the initial sprout. Any suggestions?

Sherry, good suggestion. I'm going to try planting them outside since they have bolted inside and I really have nothing lose.

i am thinking kimberly since you are in wa. you can plant seed outside now. i live in central or. i am planting spinach outside. they like it cold. lettuce also. when soil is right it will sprout and grow.we get frost at night till june. i grow lots of spring cool crops well here in spite of frosts.just a thought sherrye

I hate starting seeds in the house for that very reason. Everything bolts for the light, which is weak.I'm thinking of winter sowing, but need to read more about it. I can "hatch" any seed, but getting it to grow right is a challenge.
Make my words soft and tender, for I may have to eat them. :) |

I found with the spinach and lettuce last year, I should have exposed them to more light. I put mine on a very sunny shelf and I had trees last year... I am serious, they were bigger than my 2 year old

Could you maybe try a cold frame or if it isn't too cold, just set them outside during the day for the sun? Let us know if you come up with any more ideas!
