So what are you ladies going to grow next year in your gardens?
We've tried and tried to have a garden but the deer and some loose sheep got it. So next year we are planing a big garden. I'm not really sure what we will grow yet. my mom has that planed out. :) Would love to hear what you are growing!

LOL. I get corn in places I don't even want it, along with a few extra zucchini and crookneck plants. I swear someone drove up to the farm and dropped theirs off in the garden!!!
and I had HORRIBLE luck with cucumbers. So, how about you send me your carrots and I'll send you my zucchini?!?!?!? ;)

Well the only thing I know we WON'T be growing this year is sweet corn, because it NEVER turns out for us. Last year we had a lot of luck with our tomatoes, beets, turnips, cabbage and carrots. We lost all our cukes (no pickles!!) and got one lousy zucchini. How is it that other people can have zucchini coming out of their ears, and we only get one little guy???

I am still working on what seeds I will order this year...such a nice thing to do when its so frozen outside. :)

I just put in my first order with Park Seed. I'll be doing a few different orders through now and April, to cut down on the amount of $ I'll be spending at one time.

Today I ordered:

0937 Sunflower 'Waooh!' 1 2.95
1208 Lavender French Long 1 1.45
90089 Park's Culinary Herb Garden 1 9.95
6626 Round Jiffy Pots 3 5 15.60
5441 Tomato Park's Razzleberry Hybrid 1 0.00
5547 Cabbage Megaton Hybrid 1 1.95
5842 Lettuce Salad Bowl Mix Organic 1 1.95

So, I got the tomato's for free as a perk (For an order over $25), and I got a discount code of the internet for 10% off (X1A800)

So the total with shipping was 36.40.

I still have to order:

Tomatoes (Different varieties)
Cucumbers
Squash
Corn
Broccoli
Onions
Strawberries
Peppers

Seeds I have already:

KY Pole Beans
Tennessee Green Tomatoes
Love Lies Bleeding Red
Yugoslavian Finger Squash
Honey Rock Melon
Musquee de Provence Pumpkin

I haven't had the bravery to try melons yet, this will be my first time on those. I'm pretty new at gardening a full garden. We shall see!

We're expanding this year, so I hope to plant Spinach, Swiss Chard, Lettuce, Potatoes, Onions, Herbs, Flowers, Garlic, Asparagus, Tomatoes, Cukes, Squash, Beans, Peas, Sweet & Hot Peppers, & Eggplant. We've had most of these in the past, I just hope to have more. Oh, and carrots, if I can find a short one that will do well in Rocky soil or raised beds in the south. Any suggestions?

Hey girls- I just had to pipe up about the deer topic. Don't waste your money on the motion detector sprinkler or any of those other deterents, the only thing that will works is fencing your garden. Trust me I have used everything in the book. The motion detector sprinkler works for a few times until they realize what it is and then they don't care, Have used Irish Spring soap, Ivory Soap, Blood Meal, Human Hair, Human urin, and numerous other things and if you truly have a deer population nothing is going to stop them except a fence.

As far as what I am going to grow- here goes

Green Beans
Peas
Celery
Squash- winter and summer
Tomatos
Peppers- sweet and hot
Brussel sprouts
Spinach
Lettuce
Carrots
Potatos
Onions
Garlic (planted last fall)
Herbs
Cabbage
Cukes
Tomatillos
Lots of Flowers for the bees and butterflies

I am getting the itch to go play in the garden but it is way to wet yet. In the green house I already have stuff rowing and will be starting my tomatos next week.

I plan on growing all the usual veggies in my veggie garden, but one different thing I am going to try next year is a butterfly and hummingbird garden! I'm researching all the plants and flowers that attract hummers and butterflies. I built a rock raised bed; pretty big; right next to the house last spring and I have some herbs in there so far; lavender, thyme, rosemerry, basil, sage, oregano, lemon balm, mint. In the spring I am going to plant some lettuces in it as well, right along with the flowers, and let it all grow together in a wild heap. We'll wee how it goes. I am hoping the hummers and butterflies love it! :)

First a hint about deer. Supposedly human hair is a great deterrant. Get a bunch from a barber or beauty shop and scatter it around you garden. I love the sprinkler idea though!

We are done for this year, picked the last of the brocolli a couple of days ago. We stretched the raspberry season through a couple of frosts by putting a canopy over the bed.

We try to grow as much as we can, since DH and I are both retired we have plenty of time for it. This year we had potatoes, onions, carrots, edible pod and regular peas, wax and green beans, tomatoes, peppers, brocolli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts, cucumbers, German giant radishes, Swiss Chard, lettuce and galic. Most of that did well but the squash and melons were too shaded and didn't yield much. We have raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb and gooseberries and are starting a small orchard of dwarf fruit trees. Next year will be pretty much the same, we actually kept records this year of the varieties we used and liked.

I've made a half hearted attempt at growing herbs and plan to have a real herb garden this next year. I've got 10 varieties planned and have it drawn out. I'd like to do a knot garden but don't know if I can keep up with something that would take that much attention along with everything else.
One other thing we'd like to do is try to plant in July for a late crop of lettuce and radishes. We got some at a farmer's market so know it can be done around here.

But you can be happy if you've a mind to. All you've gotta do in knuckle down, buckle down and do it, do it, do it!"

of course my fall garden is in full swing right now, still have tomatoes, cucumbers, i have brocoli ready. Cabbage is coming along great. For spring i plan on the following

40 green pepper plants
20 tomato plants
15-20 cucumber hills
10 squash hills
green beans

May try some peas, corn doesnt do well here, had no luck with carrots, beats, radishes so wont be planting them again.

In Texas I actually plant spinach, turnips, lettuce, swiss chard, beets, peas all right now. I have pieces of fencing that I bend over the beds and put plastic on this and it grows like in a little green house.

I am planning my first veggie garden for next spring, so I'll stick with things that are tried and true--peas, spinach, lettuce, sunflowers, tomatoes, basil--that's all I have planned so far, but I'm still planning. I want to grow different herbs as well. And I plan to plant some marigolds around my garden to keep away pests.

My garden is small because there are just two of us, but I am rethinking a few things. Of course there will be tomatoes and beans. I have already planted the garlic for the spring/early summer harvest. Onions and carrots. The carrots did not do well this year and I figured it was my soil, not loamy enough so I have to fix that. Trying cucumbers again, but in a different location. Zucchini - my little compact plant really produced this year, so I may plant that kind again. Lettuce and maybe some spinach. I already have a good producing rhubarb plant and my artichoke did well this year so if I mulch that good for winter it should do good again next year. The blueberries did better this year, so I need to keep mulching them and giving them compost material to keep up the good production and the raspberries and boysen berries did fine. Will continue to mull things over during the winter till I "fine tune" what I am doing.

Tracy, I hear ya sister! I want way too many things from the catalogues.
Because of my dry conditions with a low out put well, I'm REALLY looking into water-wise gardening this year
So I'm looking for things that can grow with scant water to plant. I'm also looking into native plants to replace my weedy yard with. Good luck with your gardens!

Funny someone should ask this question... Last night I couldn't sleep so I pulled out some of my seed catalogs from this year and looked through them. So MANY wonderful seeds to choose from! I love heirlooms and, if it were just up to me, I would plant nothing else!! I plan on growing some things that I've never tried before. Now I just have to narrow down my choices!!! sigh.....

Maggie, my dad has trouble with deer in his garden. He installed a sprinkler that has a motion detecter hooked up to it some way, if anyone or thing approaches the garden they get a face full, and the garden gets a little drink too. He travels for work so this has worked a treat, the deer water the garden for him! So far they still run away when it comes on.
