So, there has been this huge pumpkin growing outside the garden into the yard. I haven't paid much attention to it but it was lookin' pretty ripe. So with thoughts of pumpkin butter twriling in my head, I went out the other day to bring it in. Well the bottom had rotted, all the seeds had dried and there was a toad living in it! I checked the next day, and the toad was still there. It's so cute. It was so nice of nature to provide that home. The pumpkin wasn't wasted after all!!

This Is the cutest story ever!! -- We had some toads in our yard in Norfolk, and I always felt so guilty if I accidently woke one up when I was weeding in the flower bed. They would just hop out of their little nest and eye me like I was So Rude!!

They are so great for getting rid of Bad Bugs!! You are so lucky to have one in your garden!!

I've been thinking about this all afternoon, and the image of the toad in its pumpkin home keeps making me smile!

Well , I think you should make a sign an put on a stake next to the pumpkin. "Please do not disturb Cinderella"

Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

That is so cute! I love seeing toads in my garden. I had no idea chickens would eat them though, that's really wild.

I think Cinderella is the perfet name for this taod...maybe I'll go out there at midnight and see what happens! I used to have tons of frogs, I did not know chickens ate frogs until I saw it with my own eyes, and they like them. Teresa, thank you for the hibernation advice, Carol

You are so lucky to have a toad living in your garden, they are wonderful bug eaters. Provide a pile of leaves, mulch and small branches for him to nestle down in for the winter, ( they hibranate ), and take a clay pot, chip a spot out on the lip, place upside down in your garden and you've given him a safe home, also thru normal watering, the pot will stay damp and cool for him in the heat.
