So, I've been getting tons and tons of little tomatoes. Yellow, orange red, pear shaped, round, etc. But I have only had ONE ripe tomatoe off my beefsteak tomatoe plant. I picked it yesterday and I was so excited to slice it up and eat it for lunch!

I also have the weirdest dog known to man. He eats blueberries, blackberries, etc but his favorite is tomatoes.

When I went to the garden I forgot my basket, but I had an old sheet, so I picked cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers, put them in the sheet and carried them to the house.

When I got to the kitchen, I set the sheet down and started making dinner. I didn't think anything about leaving the sheet on the floor in the kitchen. After dinner I cleaned up, wrapped some packages, then it was time for bed. When I woke up this morning and walked into the living room, there was a suspicious pile of tomatoe seeds on the carpet. I looked in the sheet and low an behold the big, red, long awaited tomatoe was MISSING!!! Jack ATE IT!!!!! He must have dragged it onto the carpet in the living room because that is his favorite place to eat. He at the WHOLE ENTIRE THING!!!

Sharon that is so funny! And I hadn't thought of it, but that is a really good idea. I'll plant a special tomatoe plant just for Jack next year! LOL!! Animals are really entertaining. Their personalites make them seem like furry little people. Jack is particularly expresive. He uses his body language to let you know exactly what he wants. I can't believe someone just dumped him off, he's such a sweet little dog.

Laura - I'm so glad you posted that. I was starting to worry a little bit about what he shouldn't eat. I did know that about grapes, but I'm glad to know nothing he's eating right now can hurt him. Jack has developed an affinity for peaches recently, but tomatoes still top his list of favorites.

Sarah,

That is so cute! I can totally relate. Our older pup (who we finally had to let go of at 15) would stroll through our garden and bite into the cherry tomatoes to see if any were ripe. We would come outside to find bite marks on the green ones and the red, ripe ones gone!

During apple season we had 5 gallon buckets of apples that we picked. I was slowly making my way through them to prepare for apple butter and such. More than once I would happen to turn around and lo and behold he would be in the livingroom with an apple between his front paws munching away :)

He loved produce so much that we would dry zucchini slices for him to have a snack in the winter :)

Maybe next year you can plant a special tomato plant just for Jack :)

I have one to. He is a yellow lab and he will steal the minute you turn your back he is very sneaky about it. His thing right now is Pears he eats his dog food then goes down to the tree for desert. He found a bunch of cucumbers yesterday and took care of them. I had him at the vet today and asked him about it he said the only thing that will hurt him is grapes and apple seeds. The rest is just good fiber

It must be in the name- my daschund named JACK loves tomatoes, watermelon, popcorn, and lettuce. When we go outside I have to watch him like a hawk otherwise he is eating the garden bare! He is so funny!

Maybe you should start calling him "Big Red"LOL My dog likes tomatoes, berries, peppers, apple slices--he'll eat almost anything. Tomatoes are actually good for dogs so it sounds like he's pretty smart. Isn't it funny how dogs always eat what we were saving for a special occasion?

I was mad at first, but then it was just funny to imagine this tiny little dog eating a huge tomatoe by himself. LOL!!!

I had a dog when I was a kid that would eat lettuce. And several that liked popcorn. But never a tomato eating dog....too funny. Well, not, cause you missed out on your first tomato but thankfully there will be lots more. Hide them from Jack though....laughing.
