I checked my pumpkins last night and there are 5!!! actuall pumpkins growing on the vines. I'm so excited! Growing stuff is so much fun!

My pumpkins are orange already too..4 varieties this year, jack o lantern, giant pumpkins, pie pumpkins and some fun ones covered with little bumps. The grandkids were over this week to pick some corn and went wild when they saw them. Hopefully they will last until our Halloween party we have in mid October. 6 year old Hannah thought she should have the biggest one, but I said that the biggest one belongs to the Queen of the Garden..me!

This year, I planted my pumpkins out front, away from the veggie garden, so they would not cross-pollinate with the zucchini and yellow squash. Wouldn't you know it... the pumpkins I planted are puny little guys with no flowers or fruit on them. But there is a volunteer doing very well...in the yellow squash bed, out back!!
At least we'll get a few pumpkins (small sugar) this year. Thank goodness!

The pumpkins are "out" here too,on the farmstalls YAY!! Need to buy me some soon, they are always so cheap on those stalls and often so pretty and BIG ones too. Friend A bought some today and they look so great in her garden :)

I planted my Pumpkins between the rows of my corn and had great success I did a Sugar Pie pumpkin and have about 30 of the things lots of pumpkin to put up. I am looking for a good pumpkin soup recipe too.

ha ha, brenda! i can just see you out there trying to figure out what all your produce is!
and i hear you on this cool summer (did you mean NE or NY?) it's been very cool, sometimes in the 40's at night here and i wonder if it's hindering some of our produce. our pumpkins, buttercup squash, and zucchini are all doing absolutely fabulous! i can't believe how many there are already!
none of our pumpkins have started turning colors yet, but i don't think they did last year till sept-oct, so i think they're on schedule for here. so excited, too! fall is coming! we planted the actual pie pumpkins instead of the regular pumpkins like we did last year (though i think the regular pumpkins made a fantastic pie anyway....). so i'm looking forward to seeing if there is a difference in taste. i'm going to some of my family's houses for thanksgiving and making my homemade pumpkin pie and squash casserole.... i get to show off our produce and see how everyone likes REAL homemade pumpkin pie from scratch (not the can).

Ah! I love pumpkins!
Husband this year decided to start all sorts of seeds without marking them or telling me what they were. :(
So, I was scrambling for a while trying to decide what was what. Given our cool NE summer this year, I didn't think we would have much in the way of squash or pumpkins.
But, last week I noticed all these cute little pumpkins, the decorator variety. I was so excited! I will have plenty for the grand kids to have some and me to decorate with! Plus, huge excitement when I realized that we have at least 3 big pumpkins! They seem to be more than doubling every day!!! The kids will love them, but I am definitely keeping the biggest one for myself!
Aren't pumpkins fun to grow?!!! I'm out there every day weeding the weeds away, to make sure they have all the sun and air they need! :)

Our pumpkins are just starting to turn, so I think we'll have some come Halloween this year for the grandkids.

I am so jealous! :) I LOVE pumpkins! We didn't grow any this year d/t space limitaions. Hope that yours are perfect this fall!

Oh Sarah, I planted the seeds I got in a seed starting pot with the lightweight soil just for starting everything. I was so sad an' just do Not understand why they just sat and did nothing. Ever. Evah!! >>  <<
So I'll try somebody else for the seeds next year -- and I may do like you an' go to Dollar General to find some. I bought mine from a place in Vermont, that sells seeds for 35 cents. May not use them again after this...
Thanx for the suggestion -- I know when I did get punkins to grow, they too, took over the garden, yard, part of the woods...yeah, they do Really Good when their happy!!

Lauri, I bought these seeds at the Dollar General, so I was a little skeptical as to whether or not they would even sprout. So, I put them between two sheets of damp newspaper and slid the newspaper into a gallon sized ziploc bag. Left them there until they sprouted. Now they are taking over my garden.

Ack!!  I tried to start some pumpkin seeds this spring, and absolutely nothing happened!! I was, an' still am so bummed out!!
'course, I did only spend 35 cents for the package of seeds...hm...
