My rose bushes just suddenly got invaded by the Japanese beetles....now they look so scrawny. Will they recover??? One bush is still blooming.....but oh my....my front bushes don't look the same.
Please cheer me up---these bushes are my babies/

Posted - Aug 01 2009 : 09:14:53 AM ha... I have to smile gently to myself.....I just thought of the Jainies in India, its a religion that goes so far out of the way not to kill any living thing.....they actually sweep as they walk as to not walk on any insect////ummmmm I'm not a Jainie...but I do admit I feel a little guilt killing insects. Is there hope for me?
So far my grapefruit seed extract and cayenne pepper has not stopped the beetles....but I will give it a few more rounds in the next few days.

Posted - Jul 31 2009 : 7:01:21 PM Kris your scaring me!!
Haven't got the beetles here on my rose bushes, but some kind of spotted yellow blight. YISH....I clipped her all the way back and today noticed new growth coming through. There may be hope yet!! I feel bad as it was Julie's Rose that I planted and here she had sent me, all the way from Paradise Plantation, all that great rainwater and cow pie! Don't worry Julie! Help is on the way!!

Posted - Jul 31 2009 : 12:10:23 PM Beverly, try soapy water, too. I sure hope you don't lose any. I hate those beetles. I just pick them off and put them in a small jar of gas. What fun.

Posted - Jul 31 2009 : 07:09:03 AM It has been a beetle invasion here as well. They have been eating my heirloom roses which were originally grown on my DHs great-grandmothers farm. They have also been eating the leaves on my green bean plants. My SIL put out the beetle traps and has had great success. But someone told me the traps only attract more beetles to your property. Let me know how your spray works.
