I need some advise on growing Concord grapes! I have a pretty mature 5 year old Grape arbor, This will be it's 3rd year for grapes. This year the vines are just loaded with grapes...I should have a great harvest! At the end of last month ( we had tons of rain here in PA) I noticed that on every bunch of grapes at least one or two have a black spot on them. Is this Black Rot or just too much rain? Does anyone have any advise on how or if I can save them this year? I have been knocking the ones with the black spots off of each of the bunches and that seems to have helped for now.

I tell you if it's not one thing...it's another! Last year the birds invaded the arbor even with the net covering we had on it! And ate them all! Now this year I hung a small bag of crystallized moth balls and that did the trick! No Birds...just these pesky black spots.

Thanks, any advise will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Alee...I was thinking about doing that too! We have a lot of grape vineyards near us around SW Pennsylvania. I may have to make a short trip out to one to find out. I worry about this arbor so much! We have babied it into such a great vine and I don't want to lose anything now! Thank you!

I wish I had some advice but I have never grown grapes. Maybe you could call your local extension agent and ask? Or even take one of the black spotted grapes in. They should know.

Thank you, Sharlet! I was thinking the same thing and did a little research on my own. I think I may have to give that grape arbor a good dose of fertilizer this Fall. And the ground could need some balancing (Ha...just like we do sometimes!)

I do hope I hear some news from someone today! I sure wouldn't want to lose this crop of grapes. There are a lot there! And would make a big batch of grape jelly! Thanks again for responding. I appreciate it very much!

We don't have grapes Barbara, except for the ones that grow wild here called mustang grapes. Bitter as can be, but they make great jelly. I don't how hard they would be to grow here, however I did think about it. The only thing I can compare the black spots with are my roses and too much rain or moisture makes the spots really bad. I bet there will be someone on today that will have some experience with it. Wish I could be of help.
