(blush) You are too sweet! thank you Marly! I have never thought about entering photos before, but there *is* a photo category at the county fair so.. maybe... hmmm... I was actually considering entering a mixed basket of organic veggies like the one in the picture. I have never entered anything in the fair and was kind of unsure but your encouragement has gotten my courage up. thank you Marly! and thank your husband!

Posted - Jul 18 2009 : 7:12:30 PM It is wonderful to walk outside and gather fresh veggies for dinner, and the eggs from freeranging hens just can't be beat! I have 3 redsex link, and an auracana plus five banties. Blackie (my oldest banty) is currently nesting away. She goes broody 3 or 4 times a year. The japanese black tails hens haven't gotten broody yet. And I have a gorgeous roo named Mario!

Posted - Jul 18 2009 : 10:03:10 AM How beautiful! I love the roos, too. Do you have lots of banties? I have 5 and it seems all they want to do is go broody. I have an Americana and a Welsummer that never even think about it.
Isn't it great to go out to the garden and pick your dinner?

Posted - Jul 18 2009 : 06:45:30 AM They are black-tailed white Japanese banties. I love the contrasts of their brilliant white feathers, bright red combs and inky black tail feathers!

Posted - Jul 18 2009 : 06:32:43 AM Love your basket of veggies and eggs. I took a basket that looked like that to the county fair one year. They had to make a new catagory for it. Now every year there are several entries in the garden basket class. Your basket would be right up there with the winners.
I have forgotten the name of the black and white chickens. Remind me. We used to have some a long time ago.
