Just wanted to share them....... They're my italian hives here on the right. It was fun getting the hives ready, painted and settled in with frames.

Maybe you'll take up bees too!

That has to be the most colorful bee box I have ever seen. I grew up next to a bee keeper and his boxes, all 20+ of them, were painted plain old white.

Enjoy your honey!

I would like to get some bees to, only I hate getting stung. Is there any way to not get stung?

Congratulations!!

I have four hives at my house (we are probably going to have to divide one to make it five soon). I absolutely love it! I go out every morning to say good morning to my "ladies". Our first year we got about 25 lbs of honey per hive. This year it should be more as they are already established.

Good luck!!!

You can have beehives right on a postage stamp lot. The woman who is mentoring me lives next to a schoolyard in a normal city lot. They have 5 hives there....... They fly up and out. Her bees make a load of honey because of the clover from the schoolyard. The children aren't in school when the clover blooms so there aren't any worries about kids and bees. Some of the best hives are in downtown Anchorage with all the flowers that the city puts out in the summer. You can keep bees anywhere........

Love your bee pix! Our neighbor said he'll open up the hive this week so we can all peek inside. Hope they're as happy as yours are!!

Great pictures!! I have always wanted to raise bees, but live in a subdivision. How much honey will you get from that one hive? What kind is it, clover?

Jo,

How exciting! Makes me more intrigued to learn as much as I can from my beekeeper friend. We talked yesterday about learning this year and getting a hive of my own next year. Time to start studying! :) Congrats on your bees!
