Hello Everyone! This is my first post, so I hope I do this correctly. My husband built me the greenhouse from MJ's magazine last fall. In the directions, as we read it, the last 2 feet of the plastic on the sides isn't attached to the frame so that it can be rolled up. Ok, so this is where I'm totally lost: first, how do you keep the plastic rolled up from falling back down? Did we miss a step? And second, we have some pretty rough winds where I'm at so even when its closed, the plastic is flapping and so much wind is getting through that I'm scared any small potted plants are just going to blow over. Does anyone else have similar problems? Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping wind out and still manage ventilation? I may just be missing something very obvious given that my experience is very limited. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Happy Spring Gardening!

Thanks Brenda and Alee for responding! That makes so much sense! Sometimes you're just too close to a project to see it fully - right? Your advice is just in the nick of time too. We had some strong spring Palouse winds today and the wired spots of plastic started to come off the frames. My husband and I went out armed with duct tape and sealed up everything we could and anchored down the sides a bit better. Once we had that done we went and stood inside the greenhouse and it was totally calm inside. I think tomorrow I'll move my seedlings in there and hope for the best. Thank you again!

Hi Alyssa Marie!

What you need to do is either use a staple gun or something similar to staple the plastic to some 1x1 or 2x2 boards that have been cut to the length of the greenhouse. I fashioned some removeable wire hooks for the boards on mine. I have them wired to the frame on the corners by the front and back. Then you just roll the plastic up over the boards and settle them into the wire hooks/brackets for ventilation.

If your greenhouse is flapping around too much just add more wiring to keep it in place. But, especially with Palouse winds, make sure you put the duct tape on both sides of the plastic where you are going to poke through. If you can't do both sides, make sure you do at least one side. This really does help extend the life of your plastic and prevent tearing.

Another thing you can do is get some cinder blocks and put one of who along the outside long wall of the greenhouse. I noticed this helps with flapping.

Your post is great. Sorry I can't help with the MJF greenhouse. I will follow this thread, since I had problems with my first greenhouse which was a "flower house" it got too hot during the day while I was at work and too cold at night -- I need help!
