How to kill weeds in a yard with a 1 yo. My granddaughter wants to get rid of the weeds in her yard so that her son wont be hurt by what she uses. Help please.

I just pour straight vinegar on my weeds as needed. Also if you mow your grass high, it can help shade out some of the smaller weeds and create stronger root systems for the grass. It might take all summer, but by the end of the season the grass should have taken over quite a bit from the weeds. When we moved into our last apartment, I would say about 55% of the lawn was weeds. My mowing high (around 3-4 inches) by the time this spring rolled around, yard was closser to 75% grass. Now we moved again and I would say we are back to 50% grass, 25% Sedge Grass, and 25% weeds.

I've read on other forums and sites about using a mix of dishsoap water and vinegar, or lemon juice. You can't get it on any of your good plants though, so it would be more of a "spot spray". They also said to keep the lawn mowed more frequently (2"). I need to treat the whole lawn though so I've been online looking for -a homemade safe "weed and feed" type recipe. I haven't checked out the price for this yet so I'm not sure how costly it will be. I imagine you'd have to pull the weeds already there and then use a spreader to apply the gluten. 5) Apply Corn Gluten Meal
Here is the ultimate organic weed and feed. Developed by Iowa State University, corn gluten meal (CGM) is a yellow powder created as a by-product of milling corn, is primarily used in farm animal feeds and dog food. It is also used as a "pre-emergent" weed control for lawns. A pre-emergent, such as corn gluten meal, prevents roots from forming during seed germination. If a root can't grow, the seedling is unable to obtain water or nourishment from the soil. Thus, it will dry up and die.
To control dandelions, it is best applied to the lawn about 4 to 6 weeks before weeds germinate. If you missed the deadline, don't worry. Not all weeds sprout at the same time, so you may want to apply corn gluten meal a few times during the growing season. Best of all, the nitrogen in the meal will keep your lawn green and healthy. By the way, corn gluten meal is not the same cornmeal you make muffins with. Cornmeal for baking is made by grinding dried corn kernels.

They pioneered the use of corn gluten with two products: Wow, which is pure corn gluten, and Wow Plus, which has added natural fertilizers. " Hope this helps.
