I read on here somewhere about planting potatoes in straw, do any of you have info. I got a few seed potatoes and thought why not try it

You can also plant them in a garbage barrel (clean of course) and that way you can just dump them out at harvest-and even use a spray hose to wash away the debris- Clean potatoes!

Diana, I'm glad I read this...I for one will probably NOT do this then. We have a 6 foot long black rat snake that loves to hang out around our house in the spring. If you want to see me run for the hills, it would be if I found him sleeping in the warm straw while digging potatoes. I don't think I'd ever eat a potato again!

miss wilma, just make sure when you harvest to watch for SNAKES. They seem to love this method.

I have been thinking about growing my potatoes this way,too, this year. I got 10 lbs of seed potatoes the other day and need to get them planted. I may do half in straw and half in dirt to see which one is better.
