I realize a lot of you are still covered in snow! Our Averge last frost date is April 1 but we are set to have a hard freeze tonight! They are saying mid to low 20's over night! The high today and tomorrow is only supposed to be in the 40's!!!!! This is crazy!

Of course I went and bought all my plants for my garden this weekend. Luckily someone told me about the frost before I put them all in the ground! I would have been mad! Right now all the window sills in my house are lined with plants! My cat is mad because he likes to sit on the sills!

I am working on building the GreenHouse that MaryJane had in her magzine last fall. Next year I will actually be able to start all my own seeds!

Well, I just went outside and we got it. Apple blossoms are frozen. The windshields on the cars and truck were iced over, too. It's cold but the sunrise was just beautiful! The sun will warm everything all up again soon. It was so pink. I thought of Dutchy and Sheila when I saw it. I hope their sunrise was pink, too.

I hope everyone's gardens are ok.

I think we are over the hump. The weather forcast for the next 7 days does not show anything below 38. That's tonight then the low is the 40's the rest of the week. All my plants are going back out to the greenhouse (the one with no roof) and the potting shed. There isn't enough light here in the house and I only have one grow light. So, out they go, again.

>> << Low's tonight in the 30's here along the shore...naturally I'd thot of putting my little baby nasturtiums and cosmos outside, but something told me to wait. We had highs yesterday morning in the 70's..it was really eerie, an' then the wind started to blow. Sky turned unearthly dark. I thot of finding my weather radio, but for whatever reason, tom had it in his truck, so he called an' said get ready, there's a tornado barreling down your way. Fortunately it went around us!! Shwoo!!

I could hear the tornado siren off in town, but nothing down over here happened, so we dodged a bullet!! within 20 minutes of all the storms, the temps dropped nearly 15 degrees, an' today it's supossed to be in the 50's..15 degrees cooler than normal.

Isn't it supossed to be Spring?!

I'm trying not to pay attention to my weather gauges on my hutch..they say change in weather, an' I'm trying to start singing the Beach Boys.."We've Been Havin' Fun All Summer Long"...

Kinda hard to be all Beach-iee when you're wearing 2 sweaters inside the house...

It was snowing here today. It did not get too cold last night but tonight is supposed to be in the 20's. I did bring in the tomatoes and 2 cups of swiss chard that's just coming up. There are some people who have already planted their tomatoes and peppers. Not me. It's way too early. So tonight will be the cold night.

Just went out and put an old plastic jug over my bean plants, then a light towel. Hope that helps!!!

Supposed to be about 20 tonight here in S.E. KS. I have all my tomato and pepper plants here in the house. We sure hope we can get our greenhouse repaired and heatable by this time next year. I have plants everywhere. Every window, the bathtub, in the sinks, you name it. This should be our last freeze for the year. According to the next week forcast, no freeze for the next 7 days so that should put us over the danger. I hope so. Tomorrow all the plants are going out to the greenhouse. You know, the one with no roof. Won't put stuff in the ground for another 2 weeks. That will give the soil a chance to warm up.

I am so ready to get out there and DO something besides hurry and get back inside because it is cold. Cool tomorrow then 70 on Wed.

It is supposed to be in the high 30's here, and I am glad because the garden loves cool nights and warm days. I think it will give our flowers and veggies a little lift! I am not looking forward to the heat!

We woke to snow this morning. It was pretty, but only if you could stay inside. The roads were icy and many were without power because of iced lines. That's just NW Indiana!

We won't even think of planting until mid May.

Julie, lucky you with a greenhouse in your future. I can only dream of one now.

Kris, I sure hope your apple blossom survive the cold. Two years ago the frost got all our fruit. Last year was better. Hoping this year is even more fruitful.

How about the cold frames? Should I bring in my little tomato seedlings tonight? We are supposed to be in the high 20's tonight, too. I have 2 apple trees in full bloom. I am so upset. I just hope the wind blows tonight like it did last night. I thought the roof was going to get blown off.

I also planted the swiss chard and kale in a raised bed. I think they should be ok. They are cold weather plants, aren't they?

Good luck everyone. Kris

Heather- another thing you can do is cut the top off a 2 liter plastic bottle and place it over the bean stalk like a mini greenhouse

I call it the dance of the plants weeks. Out during the day, in during the night. Scott laughed because I have Charlie's Bean plants in a huge pot, so I can't move it. So I took 2 nice dish towels and "tucked" them in. He said they were snoozing nicely as of this morning. Another week and I should be able to leave everything out for good.

You are right about some of us still being covered in snow Julie! We got about 3"s of the stuff last night! On Saturday it was 65 and the next night we hit with a snowstorm. That's IL weather, you can get up to 3 seasons in just 24 hours.

Have fun building your greenhouse. I grow my vegetables seeds, it is very easy and economical to do. Our final frost date is May 15, hopefully the snow will be over with by then!
