Do any of you Farmgirls have problems with snails in your gardens? Have you discovered an "organic" method for dealing with them?

I have heard (not tried yet) if you can copper pennies around the plants base. When the snail touch them it kills them. Something about the copper and moisture gives them a good jolt. Probly need older pennies so they'll have enough copper in them. Let me know if this works.

I've had excellent results with the home made beer traps. I really couldn't believe how many there were out there when I emptied them. Good Luck.

Come to think of it..Beer is pretty 'natural' as it's ingredients are 'barley, water and yeast'...personally..I don't care for it, but the snails love it.

Well if they are big enough, I saw an episode where Chef Gordon Ramsey paid his kids to collect all his garden snails, then he kept them in a jar and fed them and organic diet for 10 days then he boiled them and ate them!

Chickens!! And if not chickens, the diatomaceous earth is the next best thing. Food grade is best so that you don't introduce unwanted chemicals. Of course, beer works, but I never buy it. :)

Diotamachious (?) earth or oyster shell powder. Chichens and guinneas are great. I hardly ever see snails or slugs in my veggie gardens. Just around the rocks in the flower borders.

Not sure if it's 'organic' but BEER ! Put a small flatish bowl of beer in the garden. They are attracted to it..and will go to it and ..sadly drown in the booze.
