I love heirlooms... it is wonderful to go out to the garden and bring in something that you can't get at the grocery... and the taste is heavenly!!

And I second everything written here. You can also look around the mavens' henhouse http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/HenHouseSnitz/default.asp?CAT_ID=51

Lots of good information there too especially the links page in the Book Discussion forum http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/HenHouseSnitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=540 This has a lot of websites, books, etc. with information about heirlooms.

Browse around, Nikki, and then come over to the Danger of Extinction thread and post your thoughts, questions, whatever. We love talking heirlooms. http://www.maryjanesfarm.com/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=24908&whichpage=1 (I’m sending you to page 1 of the thread so you can see how it all started. Then just jump in – think of us as an heirloom swimming pool!)

God bless -

Like any plants, some heirlooms are easy to grow and some are not! But heirlooms are definitely worth any small amount of extra effort. I second Rene's book recommendations. :D

Nikki~
Some yes, some no.... I highly recommend Lynn Coulter's book "Gardening with Heirlooms".. Also,Carrots love Tomoatoes which isnt about heirlooms so much, but about companion planting which makes ALL gardening easier..... I hope you take Lillian's lead and jump over to the "danger of Extinction", there is so much great info over there..

Heirlooms are awsome! Check our thread "Danger of Extinction" We are the Mavens and this is what we do!

By the way welcome Nikki! It is always nice to "see" a new face here.
