We went on vacation during the week of the 11th and during that time here in Portland they had a heat wave 100+ degrees. Though I hate the heat and was happy we missed it, it was the ideal thing that finally got my tomatoes to ripen and my beans to finally produce. I should have had beans weeks ago, but the season has been weird. I am just hoping we don't go into cold weather too soon and get an Indian Summer. Right now it is raining, but it is suppose to clear up and be in the 80's by the end of the week. I have been very disappointed with this year's growing season - but I hope to salvage some tomatoes.

Mmmmm! You know it's late summer when you can dine on garden fresh tomatoes, a big batch of beans and corn-on-the-cob. No finer dinner is known to man! I'm still waiting on my beans and althought I've got some tomatoes, it's going to be slim pickings this year. Enjoy them for me!

We had fresh sliced tomatoes and steamed garden beans with new potatos as part of dinner last night. I have been waiting most of the summer for those tomatoes and boy were they good.

Reading your topic reminded me of a recipe my grandmother used to make, with tomatoes and green beans, both fresh from the garden. Nothing fancy, just green beans boiled, and fresh tomatoes cooked down as a sauce. Simple good farm fare. Thanks for reminding me.

Better late than never! Our tomatoe plants produced really good, but about two weeks ago they all got dried up, and lost their leaves. Enjoy your tomatoes and beans.
