Well, I got back from Moscow (ID) at 11pm on Thursday and thought it felt like snow as I was walking in the door. I ignored it because I was so tired from traveling and just went to bed because I had to be at work on Friday. Friday morning, the thermometer said it was 33 degrees and my garden is usually colder than the thermometer. I came home for lunch to check the damage and sure enough, it bit everything. It wasn't a killing frost, but it did some damage. I covered last night and tonight just in case. Unless we get an extended Indian summer, we're pretty much done here. Tomorrow, I'll have to go and cut everything back to what ever fruit is on the vine so the plants concentrate on just what's on the vine and not on more flowers. I hate to say it already, but winter is coming. Then again, it means I'll have more time at the sewing machine!

Well inspite of the News/weather reporters saying to expect an early frost, Hubby & I went and planted about 35 more trees as well as a dozen creeping junipers on the embankment...
One of my Ranier Cherry trees looks like a twig thanx to a local night maradering deer! My Italian Plun isn't looking to great either thanx to that deer or one of his buddies....so not only am I worried about the frost I am worried about the deers using my fruit trees as a late night Smorgasboard!!!!

So, Aunt Jenny, how are your tomatoes and peppers doing, now?

Good Lord! We won't see frost down here in the South until let's see....... January? Today it is about 90 and sunny.

Thank God I live in the country!

We have had frost every morning now since Sunday. In fact, it's 32 degrees as I type this. The little electric heater I put out in the garden under the tarp is working very well. All of a sudden the tomatoes and peppers are going nuts! Our nights this summer were cooler than in past years. Our day temps weren't as hot as past years, either. I'm thinking that's why my tomatoes and peppers are so late. I wish I had thought of putting the heater out there at night before now.

It has cooled off a little here too..and we have had frost the last two nights. The first night I didn't get things covered (got surprized!) and lost a few things..but last night we covered it all and it got sunny today (but not over 80 which was wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I guess we will cover things again tonight..not taking chances with my tomatoes and peppers at this point!

I have to admit, I do like the cooler temps. If I have to put the little electric heater out under the tarp in the garden at night; so be it! I, too, tend to get more done outside when it's cooler. In fact, I've been waiting to build my new strawberry bed until it cooled off. I feel for you all in the hot muggy areas. Yuck!

I'm with you Alee! Last winter curbed my need for snow forever! We still have some home improvements to finish up before snow. I'm just not ready to put my sorels back on.

Oh Lisa- my sympathies to the garden. We have been having cool night temps here and I am having to admit defeat on some things in the garden. My beans have been taken over by mold. My favorite season is fall, but I am just not quite ready for it. Ready or not here it comes!

The low temperatures must have felt good. Here in Louisiana it is just hot and muggy!
12 foot high drifts... goodness, I guess I'd be crying to go home to LA if I was seeing that! LOL

Oh my gosh Lisa! I am still not recovered from last winter yet! I still remember 12 foot high drifts and roofs caving in from the snow weight! Hopefully this year won't be so bad!

I'm the same way, I get super productive in the fall. Every room in the house has been painted during some fall season, & my house is always a mess in the summer. When it gets past 85, I don't do anything outside either. 65 degrees & below, now that is living.
I notice that some farmgirls still like the heat though; I have several friends that love it as well, just not my thing. Hubby wants to move to North Dakota, & if it wasn't for my family here, I'd be ready in a heartbeat.

Hee Hee Lisa, it is still very nice here. but I do miss the crisp autumn mornings in Idaho city. Can't say I miss all the snow but I do miss the beauty of it all and especially the elk.

I'm with Lisa (in Georgetown), Lisa...I'm jealous! We haven't had a terribly hot summer here, we've actually been blessed but I'm WAY ready for autumn and cooler temps...seems to be when I thrive, and feel alive the most. I love the changes in the garden, and the trees and I'm already washing sweaters up, so maybe that will "push it along"...

Oh Lisa
I am so jealous. I love the cool temps, , not so great for the garden I suppose, but doesn't it feel good! Crisp clean air. We here in OH have nostril clogging humidity.

I don't know if I should laugh or cry. It was a beautiful 92* here today in Ky. I planning on cleaning up my garden to get ready for my fall plantings.
