I have a few white spider lily bulbs(these can be a bit expensive to find) anyhow..I have a clump of them to divide up...but what I am looking for are:
red spider lily bulbs
or.... pink spider lily bulbs.
The red and pink varieties are sometimes referred to as "Surprise Lily","Naked Lady Lily" ,"Resurrection Lily","Magic Lily","Hurricane Lily"..or "Belladonna Lily"(look online under google images to see what I am talking about..you just might have a clump of these in your yard and not know what they are called...smiles)
anyhow..I'd really like the red ...or especially pink variety.

isn't it so fun to get a new plant and to learn about it?

Tina...so glad they made it there safe & sound! You are so welcome! I know you'll enjoy them. I took some photos of the ones in the back that just bloomed & there are 10 flower heads. Never had that many at one time come up. They look beautiful. Seems the plant exchange is going on right now. A friend at work has traded some paper whites with me and another has traded me iris. She also gave me a bunch of other things she cleared out of her garden. Including a moon flower. Can't wait to plant that. Take care!

LOL ..naw they just finished blooming back in July..as far as I know they only bloom once a year..girl you haven't seen mine! they are super big and lush in the pot I have them in..they look gorgeous!
but..they won't bloom until next year for me.
but..enjoy them..they look good year round..if they do bloom at December time..consider yourself lucky!

Kelly..the bulbs came! and they are beautiful! they arrived safely and all lush and green and have been potted up today! Thank you so very, very much! I can't wait to watch them grow and then bloom.

Hi Kelly, I have never grown that type before..so I don't know anything about them..just know that I'd like to grow them is all.
I sadly though don't have any more of the spider lilies left...I dug them up about a week and a half ago and went ahead and sent the few that remained on to my mom in South Florida.

I guess yours must grow by a bulb underground too like a amaryllis but without leaves? I guess you could just dig up the bulb ?
When I sent mom, Alee, and Jess the bulbs I had bulbs with long strappy leaves..I cut the leaves back..wrapped the bulbs in wet newspaper then put them up to the leaf part into either plastic wrap or a plastic bag..then taped that so that the moisture wouldn't leak out..but left the greenery out of the bag.
The gals all said their plants arrived safely.

this is what I found online about it:
The plants are dormant when they lose their leaves and go into "hiding" Lycoris squamigera (Zone 5 - 9) types of lycoris produce leaves in the spring. Lycoris radiata var. radiata (zone 6 - 10) - red spider lilies - produce leaves in the fall after blooming. The types that grow in winter are more sensitive to frost and less hardy than the types that leaf-out and grow in the spring.
Lycoris may bloom poorly when they become overcrowded. Lycoris divide readily and just a few bulbs will produce many offsets that can be divided and planted to produce new plants. Division of the offsets should take place as soon as the plants go dormant - when the leaves die back. June is often recommended as an appropriate time to divide lycoris. It is a good idea to mark the bulbs you plan to divide. Otherwise you may not be able to find them. The bulbs should be planted right away. The plants resent being disturbed and may not flower for a year or two as a newly divided plant.

I would personally think that the bulb would need to be kept somewhat moist to avoid drying out..so wrapping in damp paper towel immediately after digging out then into a ziplock bag and sent via priority mail would be the best way to ship something like this.Probably with the plan being to dig and ship the same day.

I think I may have some of the pink (almost fuschia) bulbs you are looking for. One of my friends who passed away this year gave them to me a few years ago. Every time they bloom I always have a reminder of him. They usually come up 2x a year.
I have never dug up my bulbs so I'm unsure how to do all that or when is the best time. There must be some I could seperate because I had one pop up in the yard 5 or 6 feet away from where I planted one of the bulbs. That one actually looks better & bigger than the ones I planted. Go figure :) Anyways, if you will give me some info on how to divide, the best time to do this, & the best way to ship them, & if they can be divided, I will be more than happy to send you some.

hey Alee,
ya know I get that way about plants too..feel like jumping up and down like a little kid about them..ha.
oh..I showed hubby your website the other night and when he saw the Viola doll he was like "hey..that looks like our little gal Hannah"...(grins)
So I think Viola/Violet would be the perfect match.
I may change her name to Hannah though as she does look just like our "Hannah Banana Carrot Cake(my little 4 yr old)"(her silly nick name she got from her brother before she was even born...hee hee..we still call her that sometimes, and when you ask her what her nick name is..it is so funny to hear her say it) so maybe just put a "Hannah" on her heart if that is no bother.
I'll be gathering the bulbs real soon for you.

They are Alee!.,.but I have a large terra cotta pot full of the white variety that I will be taking along with me to my new home..and was going to just leave a huge clump of them here..but I knew... and had been told that they were quite pricey..so I started looking on ebay for them and found that they go for anywhere from $6 a bulb on up to $19 for a single bulb!!
So..I thought maybe a farm gal would have a color that I don't have.I have the white color only.
I remember Miss Frannie from Kentucky having the pink ones..I think she called them her "pink ballerinas" or something like that.
Anyhow... I am looking for colors in red or pink to trade out for.
But if no one has those....I would like to trade for a day lily fan/plant in pink/peach/or red.
I know Janice is the daylily queen here..but thought maybe a few other gals might have something like that as well??
Thought I'd toss out the idea anyhow. ..grins.
Of course..I'd certainly be interested too if anyone had a "Sweet Lena" iris bulb/rhizome to spare..hee hee..but...I think that's pushing my luck a little bit...haha.
And yes..I am a "plant freak"..I'll be the first to admit it.
I am of the strong belief that life is wonderful when one can surround themselves with flowers and things of nature.
Flowers have always been something that ..if I am having a tough day..and I allow myself the time to look at a plant or flower..it almost always lifts my spirits.
