I put rosemary on red potatoes. I quaret or half the potatoes, drizzle olive oil on them, sprinkle rosemary, salt and peper and bake at 350 till done,.maybe 30 minutes or so....

Tina, I'm thinking the same thing. I have a small forest of Rosemary plants that started out not long ago (it seems) as doorknob-sized plants that I bought at the Farmer's Co-op. Like Lavender, when Rosemary plants start getting that big and woody, they begin to decline, so taking cuttings now is an excellent idea. Rosemary is my absolutely favorite herb. Abigail, you're right about the Christmassy smell. When I lived in the city, I used to bring in the Rosemary plants from my sheltered balcony garden to use as Christmas trees. The fragrance was enchanting. Now, on my country farm, I like to tie sprigs of Rosemary to our twig-style Christmas trees (I can't bear to cut down a tree just for decoration, even if it's raised specifically for that; live trees indoors wouldn't last with our cats!). We get the piney smell, the little red ribbons are pretty, and of course the Rosemary provides al the greenery we need. For Christmas (actually it's Yule at our house). I can use many of the tied-up sprigs in some of the dishes featured in our big dinner.

I sometimes take a few sprigs of rosemary and strip the leaves and crush them a little and put them over into the water when boiling potatoes for mashed potatoes..then mash it all together, add a little milk and butter and wallah..rosemary potatoes. very good.
also have used it on roast chicken before.
I have a huge, and I mean huge couple of plants of it by my back door..the one plant is about 5 ft across. and about chest high now.
the other one up against the house is nearly as big.
I should take a few cuttings and get them started so that I can have some plants of rosemary growing in a pot and ready to go when we move.

You can also make really pretty wreaths out of rosemary, and it smells really nice, reminds me of Christmas. I just started about 25-30 cuttings. I used rooting powder. I hope they all go good so I can give some to friends and neighbors. I also read somewhere, many years ago, that it makes a nice hair rinse for dark hair.

Karen, Rosemary is also wonderful in steams to clear your sinuses. Makes the room smell nice, too. To dry Rosemary, hang it upside-down in a cool dry place, then flick the "leaves" off and store in a jar for future use. I like to pulverize dry Rosemary and sprinkle it on warm pita bread, after drizzling a little olive oil on it, for use with hummus. Yum! Did you know that there's an old wives' tale that where Rosemary grows by the kitchen door, a woman rules the household? By me, it's true!

I don't have to root my Rosemary. I just stick it in the dirt, or in a pot of dirt. Off it takes.

Rosemary and lemon on chicken. Rosemary in spaghetti sauce or anything with tomatoes. Rosemary vinagrette for a salad. Rosemary in a hot bath. I keep a bit growing on the windowsill of my kitchen sink and sometimes I run my hands through it just to "perfume" them after cooking or washing dishes. It is coming to mean "clean, done, now relax" to me. Hope your sprig sprouts and you get to enjoy it!

We make a difference.

Rosemary is also great in all sorts of Italian style tomato dishes. It is also great for keeping bugs at bay :D

Karen, we eat a lot of lamb and it's a must for lamb...that and garlic. Also use it on any type of roast. I love rosemary. Have fun growing your own.

I have had great sucess putting mine in water until roots a visable. Just be sure to change the water every few days. I would also suggest planting in a pot until it gets nice and hardy before planting outdoors.

I just put mine in a glass of water for a few weeks and then plant it in some soil and it works just great. I love rosemary!
