brooke .. i've discovered that when i plant herbs in pots .. they are so much more susceptible to dying from lack of water when i go away for even a week! i do have a huge cauldron with herbs that seems to be doing o.k. though.

I have sage, basil, rosemary, oregano, chives and mint. My dill just bit it, the darn chipmunks dug it up and it never recovered. I need lots of mint & dill for Persian cooking (for my hubby) and we both love basil.

OK here goes...3 kinds of sage, lemon thyme, curry, soapwort, 3 varieties of lavender, chocolate mint, spearmint, basil, parsley, echinacea, comfrey, rosemary, stevia, dill, orgegano, fennel, tarragon, chamomile, a Vick's plant(succulent leaves that smells like Vick's), horehound, spice bush? & chives. I think that's about it. It is a wild mess, but I think it looks kinda neat that way.

As far as herbs go, I only have rosemary, basil, and baby fennel. I just started some spearmint & lavender. I want to start some sage, oregeno, bay, thyme, & some other mint varieties. Diana, you have some nice varieties going. I've smelled the chocolate mint and pineapple mint (they're wonderful) but the lime mint sounds really nice too. You girls have sparked my interest in Sweet Annie, I may just have to seek out some seeds. I'd also like to get some of the different basils going too. I'm so limited on space here, it's rediculous, though. I wonder if I help my MIL organize her garden, if she wouldn't let me have an herb garden there too? So sorry to hear about your plant babies, Maggie, I've had things like that happen too, it's sad when it does.

Has anyone had luck growing bergamot? They use it to flavor Earl Gray tea, which I love, I'd love to have it around, I just love the smell.Aunt Jenny, it sounds like you have a really neat herb garden, I'd be out there all day smelling!

LAVENDER!!!! Also basil, thyme, rosemary and cilantro. We are in the year long process of totally redoing our garden area so that and a few tomatoes, peppers, onion and garlic were all we planted this year. Next year the garden will be HUGE though. I am so excited! My hubby is really starting to get into the whole sustainable living thing. We got for Hens and he thinks it is so cool that we are raising our own eggs. He is even helping me to build a large coop and run area and we will start raising meat birds next spring as well.

I have assorted herbs as well, but my most amazing one is the little 4" pot of angelica I planted. It is now six feet tall with two stocks like tree trunks!!! I had no idea...
I did manage to find some sweet annie seed and am anxious for it to grow big. I love the smell and the one I left in the greenhouse perfumes it. It's kind of neat.

I just planted some sage and chives in a pot. Crossing fingers they make it! ((I had a tomato plant babied it all year, had to go off for two weeks, came back and it died. As well as the mugwort, english mint and pineapple sage I had... Well, that's the way it goes but it was so upsetting!)) I have some lemon balm and yarrow... these are all in pots.... I'm going to try and grow some others when I have time .....

Oh lots...and I am so excited that my sweet annie is back up again this year (reseeded itself) yay!! I love the unusual herbs like costmary and soapwort, mugwort and like that...and then I grow all the culinary ones I can. I adore lovage...very peppery celery taste and dries well ..if any of you havn't tried it..you sure should. It is a big old hardy plant!
