Hey Tina, thanks for the info on the pear trees. I just planted two of them this year and it looks like I won't have fruit until next year. I never had pear trees before, I did not know how to pick them. Thanks!

late August to the first of October. they do not ripen on the tree you need to pick them when they have just a slight change in coloration.. or when you can shake the tree and a few fall easily to the ground...then place them in a paper bag to ripen the rest of the way. When they are ripened they will have a slight "give" near the stem.
