Theresa,
We plant buckwheat just for the bees. A patch about 50 feet long by 5 feet wide is bordering the garden. There's also another planted area in the filed where the bee hive is that's about oh, 50x50. Seeds were broadcast on roughed up dirt and maybe lightly covered. If there has been plenty of rain or moisture, the seeds should germinate a just a few days.
This is the same stuff they use to stuff pillows and eat! (I sleep on a buckwhest pillow and haven't had neck pain in years!) Then when the flowers die, you can shake the tops and get the seed very easily for next year.
We get out seed from the local feed'n seed called Tractor Supply. I think we have a 10 lb bag, but can't remember off hand. |

Thank you, Theresa for posting the link. I just ordered my seeds, and I forwarded the link to my dad. We are both very concerned about the honeybees. I can't wait to plant the seeds! I read that planting certain colors of plants help too. They say that bees are attracted to white flowers. I noticed that too when our Japanese Snow bell tree bloomed, it was covered in bees. Same with our ice berg rose. I have been continually planting items that bloom to attract bees.
