Does anyone know how to get rid of moles? They are moving all over my yard. Someone told me to put bubble gum in there tunnels. That didn't work. I am already dreading what my yard will look like this year.

if you can have cats, i recommend them. they keep the moles away and also work on snakes as well. when we had a terrible grasshopper infestation our farm didnt suffer and i also think the cats( and chickens) worked onthat too.
if you get a couple of cats from a rescue shelter you will actually be solving 2 problems, yours and the little homeless kitty.

If moles arrive just to eat grubs, wouldn't Milky Spore eventually take care of that food source? I'm not sure if all grubs get done in by the stuff, since I've only heard of it for Japanese Beetles. You might want to study up on that; I believe it takes a few years to really do the trick. It is organic, not toxic. As with most things organic, patience is key.

I have heard that traps are the only way to get rid of them. They are illegal here but I still see them in stores. We have them really bad too.

You can have my mother's rambuctious beagle, Henry. He got two moles today....it's seems a bit early, but I guess his nose just waited them out!

My sister sticks her water hose down in a nearby run and eventually one pops up and she hammers it on the head and then she moves on to the next one. It's been working for her. A new trick she tried about 4 years ago and still going strong.

My two cats keep our moles away. Before I got them (my cats), our yard was a mess!, front and back. Now we get a little "gift" every now and then, but our yard is much better!

Look up Gemplers.com

I have mentioned them before

They sell a mole bait that has the look and feel of earthworms. 5 come in 1 package

Haven't tried 'em but if you are desperate might be worth looking into

I learned off of Public TV from, I believe his name is Jerry Baker, "America's Master Gardener" was to use used kitty liter. If you have a cat or a neighbor with a cat, the kitty liter they scoop out put down the hole of the mole, every hole you find. The smell is of one of the mole's predators and they will move out. I have done it and it worked, unfortunately for my neighbor they moved next door :) Since I have 3 cats, I have plenty to use.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, the lady in my master gardener class said that moles also like earthworms, so unless you want to de-worm your yard, killing grubs will only marginally help.

Wow, now I'm really worried that I won't be able to get rid of them. We don't have a dog. My neighbor has 5 outside cats and they show no interest in hunting them. I think she feeds them too well. I think I'm going to try grub killer. I will let you know if it works for me.

I am taking a Master Gardener class, and the ladt teaching the section onn pests just smiled when asked about moles & said "traps". She said that is the only tried & true way.

Our cat seems to take care of the problem.

Was kind of weird to be walking in the yard and feel the earth shift a little from all the tunnels.

The last mole our Sammy caught was 3 weeks ago. It was HUGE!

Hello Linda, good to see you here. We got rid of moles a few years ago with a dog, an Airdale, who whas chasing them as a sport, he ate a few, they left... but that is sometimes not an option.

I've heard of voles. I wonder if that's what I have. Do you try to get rid of them same way as moles?

Folks around here swear by these mole removal methods:

1. Roll up juicy fruit gum and place in holes. They eat it and die.
2. Place ex-lax in holes and the diahrreah they experience sends them running and not wanting to return to that location again.

Wow...I don't have an answer. I know that you have to eliminate their food source, which is grubs, and unless you find a green way, then that means pesticides. We had them so terrible one year that my flower beds, the yard, all looked like a miniature "war game" my husband had going on. There were times I'd head out into the garden and he'd say, "Where are you working today?" I'd tell him and he'd say, "Alright, just don't go near the Irises...I've got smoke bombs and traps set up there...." I haven't seen any in awhile but I don't think it's from my husband's diligence :)

I bought some mole poison a few years ago, but when I read that it shouldn't be used where children play I decided not to use it. My grandchildren are all over my yard. I also have 2 mole traps, but they haven't worked so far. They are so hard to set. I still plan on checking out the grub killer.

Unfortunately moles are nearly impossible to get rid of. If you get rid of one, another moves into the existing tunnels. There is no scientific proof that any of the folk remedies work. Body grip mole traps do work, although I know they are illegal in Washington. Personally I'd rather deal with mole hills than poison. Look on the bright side-mole activity means you have healthy soil

For the record, I hate the little buggars too. I had a record 76 mounds made in my yard in one week. I was thinking a nice mole eating dog, but they tend to make the holes even worse.

We have an awful mole problem here too. I have used GRUB killer in the past, but not last year. That's when the little buggers moved in. I guess it's time to use it again before one of us breaks an ankle!
