Geez ! I was talking to neighbor at front door about 930 yesterday morning and 2 huge-fat coons ran across my yard playing. GEZZ!! I trapped over 4 doz coons and possums last year out of my yard. I live in middle of town and they travel and live in the sewer systems here. They devour every bite of the garden they can and will pull up the plants even and eat them. They ate the toads i put in garden too and killed some of the neighbors kittens .Oh well !! I have vented. I am gonna drag trap out today and set it .It is "that " time of the year. Tried all the natural ways to drive them off --didnt work .

Although raccoons are cute - they can be a pest. I keep telling myself that we have really caused the problem by taking over their territory. Even here in a large city (Portland) raccoons are everywhere. Last year our neighbor across the street was woken up, as well as us, to a young coon orgie in her driveway at 3 am!! The neighbor two doors down had to call fish & wildlife to remove a coon and her babies from his front porch roof. They get into everything. You can't kill them here in the city (which I could really never do), but you can catch them and relocate - which many of our neighbors have. I just make sure there is nothing that will attract them - no catfood outside, no compost that is exposed, etc. They play in the birdbath and do eat cherries from our tree - but most of the time they just walk through the yard on their way to some place else.

The coons, skunks, and I are at war over my garden and chickens constantly. I wish we could spay and release them like wild feral cats...they breed like mad around here. I do not wish to harm them, but they are real pests and there is plenty of food for them without them snagging my chickens and eating only one or two bites and leaving the rest. At least the coyotes are not so wasteful....gotta build a better chicken house.

Usually if you keep all pet food and garbage up they will leave your home alone. Also if you don't want them around be sure not to leave sheds and the like open.Keep all out buildings CLOSED.One must remember they are creatures on this earth that God created too.And we have built our homes and subdivisions in their forests taking away their homes and limited their food sources. Please keep in mind these creatures need to eat and sleep too, they are living breathing feeling creatures too, just like us.If you want to trap them please do it in a humane way. Most game wardens will come out and help for free.

ha! you know what we had in our pool one summer morning..freaked the kids out at first...according to my oldest who was 3 at the time..." Get up Get up..get out of bed..there are really big chickens in the thwimming pool! Get up! Come see!"

A huge enourmous flock of wild turkeys were bathing and drinking in our pool..there were so many I could not even guess how many there were, but the left plenty of feathers all around our yard and in the pool

nope --disney turned them into cute furry woodland creatures . Till i started the garden i thought they were adorable . The possums will at least eat as loners. The coons bring the whole family. I have seen 6 at one time in my backyard . They got in my small swimming pool last year too . Heck !! My yard was the spa--eat a wonderful garden buffet and relax in the pool afterwards.

yep..i have been seeeing them the last few days. It really is too bad about fringe animals..we have created so much fringe..they aren't too sure what to do. They certainly arent worried about most things. We have had to trap em out of our basement, garage, under our barn...ugh..and the oposssums as well...ick!

I really despise the critters . I use to think they were cute :( These arent afraid of dogs at all. They go right past all the neighbor dogs straight to my yard. These things are a good 15 to 20 pounds when i catch them and very vicious .

Gosh Lisa, we had racoon trouble up here last week...one practically followed my dog into the house. (Never mind the fact that my rottie could have cared less!)
