We've had the first rain in 2 months here, and it's been a soaking rain for two solid days....now it's 45 degrees this evening, and I went outside to look at the garden and the Zinnia's were like Heaven--they were almost neon in color--they haven't been that way all summer. So, I cut all the colors, including the beautiful dark orange that has eluded me all summer.
So lovely!!!! I am ready for fall, but...sigh...

Love your zinnias! They've always been a favorite of mine. Easy to grow from seed, they brighten up any spot they're in. Try to cover them before the first frost is predicted. I do that with my favorite annuals & have been able to extend their bloom time. We haven't had a frost yet here in the Chicago land area. They're not predicting one for the next 10 days either. This is the longest we've gone without one. If this keeps up, my flowers will be blooming still for Thanksgiving!

I know, Janice. This summer was super-duper-poopy (to borrow a term from our 4 year old friend, Tate), and I know you experienced just about the same weather.
Print em' out and hang em up on your door of wonders!
I LOOOOVE hollyhocks-so sad. There IS next year, I guess.

Beautiful colors that jump off the screen! Thanks for that burst of color on this gloomy, cold day here. My hollyhocks only got about three inches tall this summer and really didn't bloom enough to produce many seeds. But of course, they now have large green leaves like they would in spring.....they'll never make it before frost. Darn! :(

They are, that's why I think I'm so bummed! I'd been waiting for them all summer, and we just had such extreme drought conditions, that though they did bloom, they just bloomed the hot pink color, and they weren't very large (the seed I purchased is called "Giant Mix"...they were more like small daisy's....just our poopy summer that's lasted until this week!
Now, it's growing cold and we should be heading towards our frost date, and I'm getting these gorgeous colors and the flowers are so large! Figures!
