This is the time of year when this topic heading usually starts getting quieter and the Stitching and Crafting Room topic usually gets much more active. Is your garden put to bed for the winter? I still need to do mine, but I am hoping to do it soon! :D

I've got to get the zucchini & such cleaned up. I'm going to cover the raised beds with plastic so they will be heated up & ready to go in feb. for peas, chard, spinach. Right now we have a few peppers, cabbage, onions, beets & some carrots left to pick this week. I have a wheelbarrow full of pink....GREEN tomaotes that are on the porch. We pick through them every couple of days & set some in the windows to ripen. The food channel today on Emille had a recipe for green tomato soup, we might give that a try. My fall plantings didn't do much either. :(

I just had to go out and get a full time job.....sigh...so today is my day off and I 'm gonna try to put as much as I can to bed!!!! |

We still have collards, broccoli, pak-choy and cabbage. Nothing too dynamic. None of these change very much as they grow, so parusing the garden gets kind of boring.
I think next year I may try swiss chard. It's so tasty and very heat tolerant |

Working on trying to get things put to bed, planted my garlic from MaryJane, mulched my rhubarb and artichoke plants for the winter. Planted some bulbs for color in the spring. Still have hoses to wrap up and put aways, some fall dead foliage to prune and toss. We did get the hedge (neighbor's hedge) trimmed down to a manageable 6' and back from our yard by 3' feet, so now I can walk around the back side of my vegetable area. Did fall fertilizing of the lawn. I should be able to get things wrapped up by the first of November.

The peas and lettuce I planted for fall didn't do well. I have everything else cleaned up except for the one tomato bed and the gourd bed which are still too active and I've been keeping under covers. Almost done....

I'm actually planning on making lots and lots of raised beds in my yard this winter so that I can convert my yard to a pretty big garden area with lots of variety.:0) still in the planning stages and have to get my wood and find out where to get a few truck loads of compost on the cheap.:0)

I have cabbage left in mine. My fall planting of lettuce and spinich has not been doing to well. I did get a few radish's. We have had wet weather lately, should say finally. So plowing has to wait a while. Almost done fixing fence though. Boy those posts sure go in alot easier in wet ground. Just hope they stay there.
