I saw this topic in the weather forum, but then realized she was talking about ALL outdoors!

I've been thinking I would really like to have a food dryer that is a.) cheap; and
b.) easily disassembled for storage (or so cheap I can throw it away at the end of the season..., like made of cardboard and aluminum foil?)

Here's a couple of links I have found so far by googling:
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/academic/environment/alternative-energy/energy-resources/homepower-magazine/archives/29/29p62.txt

and
http://www.i4at.org/surv/soldehyd.htm

I am posting here looking for ideas for solar dryers that farmgirls have actually built and used, if any?

When we had walnut trees I built a frame and nailed smaller than chickenwire (I forgot what size it was) and laid it up on blocks out in the sun. It was also moveable though large. Our autumn can be rainy. Anyway, I dried the unopened walnuts there. 5-7 days depending on the weather--maybe longer. I had to turn the walnuts and you want to keep it up off the ground for circulation. Sometimes I had to cover it with smaller wire or cheesecloth to keep the jays away. I wasn't bothered by squirrals at the time. It really worked well because natural drying was better for the walnuts than using a commercial dryer. MB
