I missed getting in the cold weather crops at the beginning of Aug. but think I'll try some spinach and lettuce anyway, maybe bokchoy. Figured I'd count on covering it through a few Oct. freezes. Might at least get in another baby tender crop. Did any of you get a fall garden planted?

This is my first fall garden on our new property so I am very excited!!

I have planted carrots, lettuce, spinach, turnips and beets. I am also starting my first garlic patch. I order a lb of garlic seed and am waiting for it to arrive!

I'm working my garden up in a week or so. It's been raining hard here so I had to postpone it, but I'll be planting squashes, spinach, radishes, turnips, sweet potatoes, cabbages, peppers, some bush beans, lettuces and greens, maybe even some amaranth, etc... Luckily for us, Texas has nice warm winters until maybe late January, then it gets cold.

We planted 300 collards 2 weeks ago and 48 broccoli. even through this hot weather they still look great. We water each one every other day or so.

We also broadcast planted turnips and spinich.

Just 2 days ago I tried boc choy seeds .....and they are already up!

but sorry, these cold weather crops aren't near as dynamic as the summer stuff.

I am so bummed, this is the first year in a gazillion, that I did not truly plant a Summer or Autumn garden, talk about going through 'withdrawels'....but with having put our house on the market, buying the one here in Washington & selling our California home, there was no time for gardening... but first thing I did when I got into our new home, bought a Geranium plant & a Violet! Ok, so I also volunteer over at a local nursery so I can play in 'their garden".
Spring of 2008, look out! I will be a planting fool!

My chickens ate my fall garden. I had beets, mesclin greens, romaine, and peas in... and they ate them all... I have a couple beets coming up and that is it. I am going to try again with the lettuce and the peas... but it's all gone. The girls are grounded too... they haven't been out for a few days because of this. Grrr...

I just planted spinach and radish today. I was able to keep my swiss chard going through the heat and it is looking great. I just worked up a bed to plant garlic in, will be the first year I am planting my own garlic.
I didn't order extra seed for a fall garden and I'm in the same boat as some others when is comes to finding fresh seeds this time of year. I'll be having more forethought when I order seeds for next yrs garden, lol.

Uh-oh. Did I miss the fall garden planting time?? I was going to wait until the end of September, as it is still 115 degrees here! Is it going to be too late now??

I'm going to give it a go here. I've got some radishes, spinach, lettuce, and turnip greens. I'm going put in some carrots and beets just to see too. We had a rainy spring and summer - maybe we'll have a sunny fall!

I put in lettuce and beets last week. I think there is still time to get the radishes in, but I'm not too sure about the peas here.

I have lettuces, peas and snow peas. I wanted to plant broccoli, but now I can't find any seeds or plants. Everybody has put them away or tossed them out.

Ooh, sounds yummy. Some spinach is up from what I let go to seed, just the first real leaves. I've got some old windows I salvaged that would make good cold frames. Don't know if the garden centers would have cold weather crops already started so I could "cheat" a bit. They've practically got Christmas stuff up already, you know? No wonder kids are confused. For everything a season. In season. :)

I planted lettuce, spinach, radish, green onion, and kolirobi (sp). I have done this before, with great success, and have failed too. I am hoping for success this fall! Michele

I really wanted to plant a fall garden this year but I should have already had my seeds started. I might still try to get a few things in but not holding my breath for much success. Let us know how you do!
LadyCrystal Posted - Aug 29 2007 : 04:18:43 AM
I put one in. I put in lettuce, spinach, beets, peas and green beans. This is the first year I have tried it. I'll let youknow how I make out.

Michelle-

I am not planning on doing a fall garden this year. Where I planted this year will hopefully be a bee/hummingbird flower garden next year and by my fence next year will be a much larger garden spot.

Please let us know how your fall garden works out!

I will be planting fall flowers. I have never thought of planting a fall garden. I will have to see what grows in my area.
