Posted - Aug 19 2007 : 08:26:13 AM I'm with Bev on the horse manure. We covered our raised beds in it a couple years ago, and everything growing there LOVES it! The plants love when you talk "Horse-sh#t". Steer manure is good too~whichever is more readily available. Lowe's and Home Depot both have steer manure for just over $1/bag.

Posted - Aug 17 2007 : 08:53:52 AM Oh I just love corn! I think it is absolutely a beautiful creation. I swear, when I shuck an ear of corn, I sniff it like a crack addict. I love the smell of dirt and earth and sun and rain all mixed together and trapped within the husks.....it's my absolute favorite smell (next to woodsmoke on a fall night!)

Posted - Aug 17 2007 : 04:39:30 AM Bonne...it's beautiful! I should plant some of that. I have the hay, the pumpkins and the corn stalks for a great fall decoration for the barn and Indian corn would just complete that!

Posted - Aug 16 2007 : 8:08:17 PM Bonne, you're Indian corn is beautiful! I wanted to plant some this year, but with the new baby and all I never got around to much gardening. My grandpa always used to grow it, so it makes me think of him. |

Posted - Aug 16 2007 : 7:38:35 PM just like sweet corn, plant ,water , and watch it grow! I've grown popcorn in the past~the ears have hardened kernels when ripe that you remove from the cob. Easy to grow too. Sweet corn takes so much garden room, and I can get yummy locally grown corn 6 ears for a buck, so I don't bother with it anymore.
