Posted - Aug 01 2007 : 09:57:18 AM I feel like a silly, but as I looked out over 15 acres of ripe barley, I was so pleased yesterday. Honestly, we lease out the farming to a friend, so I didn't have a hand in growing it. Just killing weeds on the margins and puttering around on the non-crop part of our new farm.
DH cut off a good hunk of the grain stalks and handed it to me to do something crafty with to commemorate the year. All I can think of is to tie it with raffia and set the mini-shock on the table as a centerpiece. Ho-hum. I've seen fantastic grain arrangements at the fair, but ours is so far off. Do any of you have ideas/experience arranging grain?

Posted - Aug 01 2007 : 5:48:43 PM Alee, I just love the idea, but I'm a chicken still. I don't think we're ready for that big step. But it is fun to think about and I'm not ruling it out. Time is long and full of possibilites. :) I'm going to start small and take it from there. Like the dirt patch in front of the airstream, or collecting wildflower seeds for sale/cultivation and sale. Still brainstorming. :)

Posted - Aug 01 2007 : 12:28:07 PM Congrats on the first crop, Michelle! Soon you will be veteran farmers and have a farm that sustains you for most of the year! Won't that be great?
