Hello, I bought a couple of tomato plants at my local Wal-Mart and put them in 5 gal buckets. They dont seem to be growing..or if they are it is in s-l-o-w- motion...I put rocks in the bottom and used organic soil. I havent put anything on them...just water everyday...can someone help please...p.p. I gave one to my granddaughter and she calls me everyday and asks if they are going to grow...

I would suggest getting good compost and composting the bucket. Container gardens need a lot more fertilizer since the heavy watering can wash it all away. Also, if you didn't bury them very deep, you might want to hill the dirt around them, or even dig them up and rebury them. All the little furry things on the stalk will turn into roots if you bury them, and the sooner the plants establish a good root structure, the sooner they will start growing. But once they start growing- they will really take off. Mine just doubled in size in two weeks!!

Tomatoes do great in containers. Bury them deep, put them in the sun and water well. They have to have good drainage, they don't like wet feet. What kind of tomatoes did you get? I usually buy Patio for containers but this year I got Grape and SuperSweet. Some tomatoes grow tall and never quit (indeterminate) and others (determinate) are bushier and don't get so tall, or stop at a determined height. Also how long have you had them? Maybe they just need a chance to develop a good root growth. I hope this helps. MB
