hello farmgirls!!!
Ive heard several different ideas regarding keeping your cut flowers
lasting longer. Change the water daily and add an aspirin to water are the only two I can remember at the moment. Any of you ladies have any tried and true solutions??Much obliged.......!!and thank you kindly!!!!!!

I've found that when I get home if I recut them before I put them in the vase they do better. My grandmother told me to cut on the slant and it does seem to work.
Too, be sure that they aren't in direct sunlight as they'll "cook" and the water will get hot.
But once in while the odd thing happens,
Once in a while the dream comes true,
And the whole pattern of life is altered,
Once in a while the moon turns blue.

Susan the most important thing is to make sure your flower stems are free of leaves where they come in contact with the water. That is the leading cause of funky smells and dying flowers. In high school I worked in a florist part time and we just used tap water at room temp to condition the flowers when they first came in. Strip leaves and make a fresh cut across the stems and into the water at room temp for2- 12 hours( depending on the flower tightness) and then the cooler. Our flowers were always fresh, held up well and usually lasted about a week to 10 days.I don't think that flower additive packet you get really helps except for people who don't change the water daily, it has a bacterial inhibitor in it .
Also remove dead flowers from the bouquet so they don't contaminate the water either.Hope that helps!
