Whew! Our shipment of blueberries finally arrived on Thursday and yesterday afternoon we planted 100 plants. I am so sore today I can hardly move! We finished the 5 hour job and my DH turned to me and asked..."what are we going to do with all these berries?" I am so excited, I think we will open a pick-your-own market. And then my busy, busy mind got to thinking and I came up with an anual blueberry festival on our farm...blueberrie treats, crafts, live band, pig roast....oh my, I think this might be a blast... We have to wait a couple of years till the plants have grown and are fully productive...but that gives me a few years to plan. Oh my, this could be dangerous! How bout a farmgirl festival in a few years?

Thank you , I will check on that book about blueberries. My girls are so excited to see everything with little buds on them. My youngest (12) she is so patient and keeps telling me, "Mom it takes time, I didn't grow overnight". All though my 5'7" 12 year old... I feel like you did grow overnight! I can't wait till my garden looks like a garden!!!

I asked my Hubby, resident blueberry expert, he says you should probably get a different breed for cross pollination. If you want a really good book on everything there is to know on blueberries....it is entitled "Highbush Blueberry and it's Management by Robert. E. Gough.....it will tell you everything you could possibly need to know about raising blueberries.

That sounds Great!!! My daughter loves blueberries, she eats a whole pint, when we go to the farmers market. I just bought 1 bush, someone suggested I would need another for pollination. Should I get the same type?

Beverly-

Wow! You have a very loving hubby to have helped you with all that work, not even knowing what you will do with it! Sounds wonderful though! I would love to come to a blueberry festival and I even think my fiance would like it too!

Oh, a blueberry farm! That sounds just like heaven to me - I am so excited for you, Bev. I can't wait for your blueberry festival - and blueberry pancakes - one of my favorites! That is so exciting. WAY TO GO!!!

XOXO, Libbie

Bev,
your blueberry story brings back memories. When I lived in New Britin, Conn. (mid 60's) my folks sent me to Girl Scout Camp (best memories) and our camp site was called Blue Berry Ridge....on our walks to the latrine....the path was covered with small low growing wild blue berry plants....so at the innocent age of 11, we didn't think anything about picking the berries on our treks to the latrines.....best tasting berries! Now a days, people stress that you have to wash & sanitize everything before eating. How on earth did I survive after eating those wild berries!?! To this day, I still say they were the BEST tasting berries I have ever eaten!

We have been thinking of doing an occasional B&B weekend as there is a guest cottage on our farm...Another project to think about, but it might be kind of fun to do a Mary Jane's Farmgirl farm travel club....we could open up our farms for Mary Jane Farmgirl visits.....oh, there goes my brain again...in high gear.
